ITER (originally an acronym of International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) is an international nuclear fusion research and engineering project, which is currently building the world's largest and most advanced experimental tokamak nuclear fusion reactor at Cadarache in the south of France.[1]

The $50 million at issue, cut from U.S. fusion research, is a tiny amount compared to the estimated $4 to $41 billion in U.S. federal subsidies to the oil and gas industries.
(At the end of March, Senate Republicans successfully voted to keep subsidies.)
Unelected corporate government is the appropriate term here!
