In A Convenient Excuse, Wen Stephenson makes the point that the climate crisis is the biggest story in any generation, with billions of lives at stake. What does it say about our media, that a music magazine with Justin Bieber on the cover was the best venue for Bill McKibben "to spell out the facts, in cold hard arithmetic, for a mass audience"?
Imagine if Pearl Harbor had only been described to US readers in a music magazine with an entertainer on the cover, and regular radio magazines and newspapers ignored it.
This story should be covered as a crisis he practically shouts.
Why didn't I notice this horrific irony on my own?
... the opinion pages and magazines ... mainstream blogs... there's essentially no debate of any kind that reflects the scale and urgency of the crisis.
