Not all disabled people are unhealthy, as a reader reminded me. Thanks for helping me see beyond my own situation!

I can imagine that people often make that assumption and ask disabled people when they're going to get better or if there isn't something that can be done. Not everybody who is different needs to be "fixed."

In my case, disability is due to a deteriorating health condition. I apologize for not thinking my welcome statement through.

Oh boy, do I know what you mean! When somebody says they'll pray for you (or anybody else) aren't you tempted to say, "Why don't you do something that will really help?"

I started this group to provide a place for those of us with chronic illness, chronic pain, or disabilities to get together and support each other. There are lots of good general support sites, but I get tired of being told that people are praying for me. I once alienated a whole group by suggesting that having a long prayer post on Sundays might not be appropriate. Of course, the xians got good and mad at me for even suggesting that they were doing anything wrong.

If you understand the problems of being unhealthy and an unbeliever, please come join in!
