Working with hospice is tough enough without the entanglement of religion and family members who may or may not be helpful in the dying processes. I respect their work and the goals of Hospice; several family members and friends were helped, especially families. I have no idea how one bridges the gap when a person is dying, weary, perhaps sick, sometimes tormented by people who love them, and all the while knowing death is an end of life as we know it and a change to a different form of energy. I don't understand why that is so frightening; death is like going to sleep; the brain and other organs begin to shut down when blood flow stops. My children have instructions to hold my hand if they can be with me, and rejoice that I came into the world and found it to be just splendid.

booklover, thank you for your helping us understand the difference between Type 1 & 2. No one benefits by blaming the victim. I appreciate you.
Comment by booklover on January 5, 2013 at 8:43am Guitarzeroh Tubes, that picture suggests type 2 diabetes. My son has type 1 is am auto-immune disease and is totally different from type 2 which is usually caused by a poor diet and no exercise. What bothers me about this pic is that most people don't know what I've just explained, and assume taking insulin means you are responsible for having to take it. Nothing could be further from the truth for people with type 1.~Melinda

Comment by Joan Denoo on December 2, 2012 at 11:54am Guitarzeroh Tubes, In my opinion, both are dying because they demonstrate over and over again, throughout history, there are flaws in each system and continuing to do the same things creates conditions that harm flourishing. With religion, it doesn't take very long for corrupt leaders to evolve leading to dominionism, i.e. "my group if better than your group," "My religion is better than your religion," and wars of power, destruction, bombings and shootings. and corruption takes over, followers turn into sheep, and no one benefits.
With capitalism, the same evolution takes place, at the individual level, local level, national and international levels. The flaws of capitalism based on principles of growth of wealth, are not sustainable.
First of all, assets, sucked out of those who labor toward those who own capital creates an ever widening economic gap and a class society.
Second, compound growth uses more and more resources on a planet with limited resources that leads to depletion of natural resources, pollution of water, soil, and air and cannot be sustained.
Third, exponential growth of world population outstrips the ability of Earth to feed and water living organisms. Life, as we know it, cannot be sustained.
Fourth, building a society on fundamentally flawed religious and political systems collapses from within, creating conflict, resulting in scapegoating and not paying attention to basic values. A society that does not create opportunity for all to flourish cannot be sustained.
