This morning I reacted to a zombie picture with a fantasy. I've often felt that identifying with monster characters, like Annie in Being Human, is a way to express a part of ourselves that didn't fit into regular culture. That it's part of how human beings are reinventing themselves by embracing our dark side as part of us.
Climate Destabilization has been much on my mind, partly because of the dire predictions. I've also been thinking a lot about a cliodynamics article, that's science to tease out patterns in history. The author said

...if Turchin's prediction of unrest in the United States around 2020 is correct, Whitehouse would expect the next few years to see an increase in tightly knit US groups whose rituals have a threatening quality but promise great rewards. Turchin can't say who those groups might be, what cause they will be fighting for or what form the violence will take.

But Whitehouse believes that the research that is feeding the database will complement Turchin's approach by throwing light on the immediate triggers of political violence. He argues3, for example, that for such violence to happen, individuals must begin to identify strongly with a political group. One powerful way for groups to cement that identification is through rituals, especially frightening, painful or otherwise emotional ones that create a body of vivid, shared memories.

“People form the impression that the most profound insights they have into their own personal history are shared by other people,” says Whitehouse, who explored this fusion of identities in an as-yet unpublished survey of revolutionary brigades in Misrata, Libya, last December, along with his colleague Brian McQuinn, an anthropologist at Oxford who studies civil wars. Only once such fusion has occurred do people become willing to fight and die for the group, he says. Therefore, if Turchin's prediction of unrest in the United States around 2020 is correct, Whitehouse would expect the next few years to see an increase in tightly knit US groups whose rituals have a threatening quality but promise great rewards.

So it makes sense to me that the predicted 2020 violence will be in response to Climate Change, directed against the wealthy individuals and corporations standing in the way of sustainability.

My brain put all this together visualizing one of those groups which become tightly knit by scary rituals as people who choose to express their fear and anger over the impending demise of civilization by identifying as zombies and other monsters for the purposes of protest.

I imagined a Zombie Apocalypse Action, where people continually mob the corporate headquarters of ExxonMobil, for instance, and the homes of the Executives of climate Change dressed as zombies. Why not show the death these guys are actually bringing with theater?

It makes sense to me that fantasy should intersect reality in this way.

You fantasy sounds really cool. Kinda like the Walking Dead.

I think your fantasy would make a great movie!

Thanks, it's easy to imagine as a movie.
