What a ridiculous strawman that article starts with! People did not start fighting GMOs "because of mad cow disease". Sheesh. There is lots of science demonstrating that transgenics have deleterious effects on it's consumers and pollinators and the soil and the rest of the ecosystem around us. GMOs is too large a label for only a small portion of GMO food is transgenic and it's the transgenic foods, not the generally manipulated food that is showing effects.
The reason that this information is not properly disseminated is that it's advantageous politically for Monsanto and its brethren that citizens confuse the too, because they can easily shoot down anti-GMO arguments, but it's nearly impossible to shoot down anti-transgenics arguments. Prop 37 in California regarding labelling of GMOs (transgenics) was won by billions of dollars lying to people. No democracy there, only the power of big pharma/agribiz

Secularity is a lost campaign to me. Faithers DO NOT leave their religion on the coat hook as they leave home. Faith and beliefs in anything stupid and non demonstrated BS is carried over into every day life. Secularity does function minimally in countries like France until a couple of decades ago, while society was relatively homogeneous, where they were mostly Catholics, and mostly agreed to "keep it toned down". But in multi ethnic countries like Canada and the USA, where recent immigration is increasing and population homogeneity is decreasing, religions become a larger part of people's daily life... through the juxtaposition of different lifestyles.
I have no love for secularism, IMO it's a waste of time. A society based on reality is what I want aspiring to.

Indeed as capitalism has corrupted environmental principals with "greenwashing", so it has done with good will. We could also call it charity washing. Yet another reason why I am not enthused in the least by efforts from certain Humanists to constantly proclaim "atheists are good too (compared to faithers)", and chasing religious organisations with charity efforts. The charity efforts of faithers is NOT about charity but about making themselves look good. Faithers invented "charitywashing", and Humanists are following them along :(
