I know what you mean Tom, one should not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Glad to have you all here!

The Jeffersonian label was the hook for me. I have toyed with an idea of starting a religion based on Jefferson's bible but modernized and eliminating god completly from it. Many of the actual sayings of jesus are actually humanitarian in nature.

Well said, Realizer. Well said indeed.
And yeah, I think of myself as a Moderate. There are so many labels though. I really don't know which means what. It's very confusing.

I have watched the religous right and the (so called) conservatives systematically destroy the nation I grew up in. I have not said much through the years about being an Atheist, thinking honesty and integrity were things one lived for, not for any Pie in the Sky when I Die. It has been said that a clear conscience is the result of a faulty memory, that well may be, but there will be no one at my gravesite who I have knowingly wronged.
Organized religion is greatest con game ever perpetrated on people who apparently must have some myth of a future reward to face the day to day problems of life.....

I think the term should be more common but from my limit personal experience I have not found that to be the case.

Oolon, being from the states I thought more people would recognize the Jeffersonian Liberal thing. But you're right, adding moderate can't hurt. So, there you are.

I think it would be beneficial for attracting new members if you put Moderates at on the list for who this group is for. In the U.S. there are many people who disagree with the left and right, but also don't fit into the libertarian camp. I think moderate would attract more members than Jeffersonian Liberal because it's a more easily recognized term in the states.

Just my two cents for improving the group.

Hello! I think I belong here. I don't know what I am, but I'm not a socialist or a conservative. I'm a Common Sensiblist!
Yes, I agree with you Parallax, it's all terribly, dangerously silly.

I am new to AN and thought this would be a good place for people who are not socialists nor conservatives to gather and talk about how silly it all is right now.
