Here is their Chicago page

I joined the Chicago CFI Meetup group. They have a meeting this Tuesday. We will see what happens. I am not very outgoing, and sometimes I have a hard time finding the group I am looking for in a bar. I do not like walking up to random strangers and asking them about religion. I missed out on one of Friendly Atheist's get-togethers because of that.

I just joined this group, so let me chime in a bit...

Richard: I believe the Chicago CFI chapter does a monthly Sunday thing. I've not attended before, but I think it's more of a presentation format followed by group discussion. I can provide you with contact information for someone if you are interested. Adam Walker (the chapter leader) is quite a busy man, but I know of others who are very involved and interested in getting more people involved as well.

I am a former regular attendee of the Brights Meetup. They're a good group, but my work schedule doesn't allow me to attend anymore. There seems to be a recent "power struggle" in the group that makes it seem like it might be a bit childish and unproductive. I'm not sure if they've got all that crap smoothed over or not.

I attended one or two of the Skeptics Meetups that GERG mentioned. Good stuff, just didn't have the time to keep going.

I'd be up for a face-to-face gathering of sorts. Weekends would be best for me. I'd be willing to co-organize such a thing if there are enough people interested and willing to go.

I'll try and pay attention here to see if anything ever gets going...

Hi folks. Here are some options for those who have not found social groups:
Chicago Skeptics Meetup Group (I'm a co-organizer)
Chicago Brights Meetup Group
CFI Chicago

Most of these groups meet in the loop or on the north side. If there were enough people interested I'd love to see a south side group. We'll see.

Hello. Just another atheist in Chicago here. Not much to say right now.

Hi Richard! Man oh man I haven't been checking this group! Sorry for such a delay in your post.
I intended this group to pull chicagoland atheists together online however I am not opposed to all of us gathering and meeting face to face :-)
Lets see how many would be interested!

PS: Thanks to Renee for setting up the Chicagoland group. I'm in the NW suburbs and hang out on Meetup quite a lot, but I don't know if we've met yet or not.

Hello there all, sorry it took me a while to get around to checking out this site. I first heard about it back in July, but I haven't had much time to do so until now. I like the format.

Technically, even Dawkins admits to not being 100% "atheist," he suggests a 7 point scale at which he's something like a 6.999.

So yeah, I'm an agnostic too by the strict dictionary definition of the two terms atheist and agnostic - but I tend to use atheist because the connotative definition most people give agnostic is that it's someone who just hasn't thought about it enough or met the right "proof," which in turn means "agnostic" is equated with "please convince me." Nuh uh, not gonna do it. :-)

I'm actually an agnostic.

Hi, y'all. I just joined this group. I used to participate in Chicago atheist groups (Independent Atheists, started by some folks who got kicked out of American Atheists; and then its successor, Free Inquiry Network, which is defunct). But (looking at the pics) I don't think I've met any of you folks.
Does this group ever have gatherings to meet face-to-face? I have an atheist friend in Indianapolis and he introduced me to a group called Center for Inquiry, whose Indy chapter has a physical place to meet. There is supposedly a Chicago CIF group but with no meeting place; and their leader does not reply to my emails. Can anyone comment?
