Hello all ... am a Chicago agnostic/nontheist finally getting around to rebuilding my world post-fundamentalist Christianity instead of just wallowing in lonely and secretive angst ... hoping to make the September Bright meet up as it is relatively close to Hyde Park!

Welcome CG and Ben! If you all are interested in meeting up more often, there's always the Chicago Brights group and the Chicagoland Skeptics. If anyone else has any ideas or thoughts, please post them here... the more groups and ideas we have the merrier!

Chiming in as a Chicagoland skeptic in the burbs! I belong to one meetup.com group already, but I'm interested in visiting more. Cheers!

Someone said there was not enough "traction" of non-theist groups in Chicago. I have started a website called Illinois Freethought. It is at www.illinois-freethought.info. It just has links to all the groups in Illinois I could find and a little calendar for when they have meetings. I was at an Illinois Skeptics Meetup, and we all agreed that a lot of groups are not getting the word out, so this site is a small step in that direction. I am on Meetup, and I like Atheist Nexus, but they are "members-only" sites. If a group is only visible on a site you do not have an account on, you never hear about it.

Maybe my site won't gain any "traction" either, but I thought I would give it a try. Spread the Better News!

Hey there Chicagoland Atheists, I just move back from Tennessee, and I'm living in Libertyville in the north burbs. I'm originally from Round Lake and I'm happy to be home, but I know so few people up here anymore.

Or, "Imagine no Religion," ala John Lennon.

I actually am quite partial to the FFRF mottos, "No Gods, No Masters," and, "Beware of Dogma."

I like that one as well.

me too; it is not provocative ("I'm atheist"-"I don't believe in God")and doesn't make people break your car but you still say what is your creed. Also, anyone can relate to that, even god believers but you might make the believer think what is first for him/her: god, or reason ?

I have one: "In reason we trust"
