I can't bring myself to mention it on the CAA website, but I'm really, really bothered with the encroachment by a Christian on our discussion boards. Yes, I want to be tolerant but is there any aspect of our lives that doesn't have to have the greasy fingerprints of Christianity all over it?

Or am I just out of line?

I think Ned Flanders (AKA Bill) may have some doubts about his faith but is afraid to admit it. Maybe hes just feeling ateists out to see if he can be one. He hasnt proselytized or even come up with what he calls evidence. He says "I agree that there's absolutely no proof - nothing close to it. But in my judgment there's certainly evidence." Several folks have asked what evidence he has and yet he has produced nothing.(Sound familiar?) He has definatley stirred us up a bit online but I agree that we should have a place to express our thoughts without being rude.
When Brian posted the Flanders video I lost it! Perfect Video.

You have to state that you're an atheist to join this site so why not?

Or something about being atheist/agnostic for the CAA.

Yeah, Bill seems to have an agenda. He might not be aware of it but his long, rambling posts have all the earmarks of "the thin end of the wedge." First he gets us to admit that there might have been an historical Jesus and then it takes off from there.

And if a theist lies about it, they go to hell! Its perfect! I just wonder what he might say to his buddies if we give hime the boot. Not sure if I care either.

OK, maybe I'm hypersensitive to this sort of thing (dealing with it as much as I do) but what's up with this Micah Israel guy? Is he a religious zealot hiding in the guise of an atheist or is he an atheist who just likes to stir things up with a big stick?

He has all the earmarks of the first:
Long, meandering posts
Adherence to certain texts to prove his point
Non-sequiturs in debate

In his profile, under interests, it simple says, "Bible".

Any ideas of what he is and how he should be dealt with?

Sorry guys but I didn't know I was susposed to read their posts. I've just been ignoring them. You'll have to insist that I read them before I'll start. CAA should be a "clubhouse" for us so we should be able to control our membership. But, requiring a statement of "lack of faith" likely won't stop a xtian from lying to get in the gang. It's not like ethics have stopped them before (e.g. Regan; Bush I, BushII, Ted Haggard; Dick Armey, Dick Cheney, etc, etc, etc.)

So, I say ignore them for now and vote in the near future as to whether to start a requirement. I've never read nor responded to one of their posts, nor ever will; I would speculate that joining this group is a little like self-flagellation for them. A way to show JC how they've suffered thru the slings and arrows of the godless heathens to better understand them (us.)

My boyfriend was excommunicated from the church. XD Received an official letter and everything. He asked too many questions. And when they were talking about baptism or something (I don't know Catholicism), he asked why bother since he was going to…

I most certainly agree that the burqa should not be allowed for a government employee to wear. I can't agree that feminism is so rigid as to only allow white well-educated women to define it, though.

People who are excommunicated never should have communicated in the first place and they are better off outside of the catholic cult.

I don't see how she could when she gets older and realizes her rapist wasn't punished by them, but the doctor who helped her was. That's going to create dissonance.

I don't think what you said was racist. The person you mentioned was racist, it's condescending to have a double standard toward reverse racists. Some groups (I'm thinking of religions more than races) want to overbreed in hope of dominating by shee…

Indeed. Speaking up over the large and the small illustrate how pervasive discrimination is. I would raise hell over any type of discrimination based on my lack of religion.

In recent years in Quebec we've gone through a 'new' tolerance phase (as opposed to our old "intolerance" stance on language and French culture). It got dubbed: Les "accommodements raisonnables" or les "accommodements religieux" This was a politica…
