Actually both "shot" and "shit" work in this case.

Chris, try saying that after you've been let go from a position because of your atheism. It's never happened to me, but I personally know people to whom it's happened.

Plus, when you're applying for a position, you'll never know why you didn't get it. You have to maximize your chances, in this shot economy. All real companies will Google you to see if you have anything going on that they might find dodgy. You don't have to be a member to find stuff on this site with Google.

If your last name is Smith, you're immune to this sort of problem, but my first and last name together will narrow you down to two people in the US. I have to be a little more cautious.

To Lamar and Eli, congrats, good to hear things are looking up.  Thanks for starting the podcast up again, its kind of like having a good friend come back from a long absence.

To Brother Richard, do you know if Atheist News will be starting up again any time soon?  I've been missing the podcast, you guys have a fun take on the news.

Great to finally hear another show from you guys.

Congrats on the baby Lamar!

And I'm glad to hear your daughter is well Eli.

I get a smile on my face when I hear a new show from you. It reminds me of kinder gentler days.

Chris, I'm not hiding my atheism. Everyone knows that I am not a believer. I'm hiding my parents atheism from their siblings and other family members. Everyone politely accepts my lack of belief, but if they found out about my involvement as an atheist activist it would be an entirely different matter. Point is, I don't give a shit what they thing but I also don't want my parents to suffer for it.

I am of the mind of the honey badger in this, in which I just dont give a F*** :D. My parents know my bosses know and my wife know. All my friends know. If they dont like it shove it. That being said I was raised in a secular household(until recently) and don't understand what it means to be afraid of or for family/friends. Its messed up that you guys have to hide yourselves simply because of your lack of belief.

Yeah, sucks when you get that kind of situation.  I'd use my full last name, but that would make me very Google-searchable, considering my last name.  I don't care who in my family finds out, but it could be an issue with prospective employers.

Mike k.,

Our last episode with Joe was released on May 13, 2010 but was actually recorded almost a month earlier on April 18. We were still technically a trio for about a month and a half after the recording. Joe and I talked about parting ways sometime during the first week of June, though I don't know the exact date.

My last name is known by some of our listeners, but I don't want it publicly posted anywhere. I'm not in the closet, but my parents are, and if extended family catch wind of me doing this podcast they would have a lot of shit to deal with. If at any point they actually listen to the show and recognize my voice, I'll gladly broadcast my full name since there would be no point in hiding it anymore.
