An incident at the bank today (Nov 11, 2011)

Started by Derrick Theo. Last reply by Kevin Dec 1, 2011. 1 Reply

While in queue at the bank earlier today I overheard three folks in a conversation about religion. It seemed to be Christianity-based. This elderly lady was talking to a 30-something year old guy who…Continue

Hi, everyone. First post here. I'm so glad to have found this site--had no idea such a thing existed. I was beginning to think I was a lone nonbeliever/skeptic where I lived, but here we go. Anyway,…Continue

The Atheist Experience Blog

An observation on the concept of “callout culture”

So if you call yourself a skeptic, that means — or should mean — that you embrace the notion that no idea is sacrosanct, there is no dogma, and every idea and statement should be subject to criticism and rebuttal. Crazy talk, right? But check it: there are some people, even in our august society …

Open thread for AETV #874: Russell and John

Coming right up! Also, if you have any unfinished discussion of last week’s episode 873 with Matt and Don, feel free, because it looks like nobody made a thread. 872 was a skipped show because it fell on a fifth Sunday.

@Matthew, Mr. Apostate: Go ahead Matthew. If you want you can go ahead and put up a facebook group. I'm already on there so I'll join up. Or if you guys prefer I can set it up as well.

@Matthew
I think you might have a good idea there. Might reach a wider Caribbean audience. BTW, I was tossed off Facebook during "Draw Muhammad Day", guess I could sign up again under different name.

Anyone think a Facebook page would be useful?

Oh, one other thing. I want to thank Derrick Theo for getting this started and I'm glad that you are on the mend from your accident.

I'm a new member and I want to say hello to everyone. I'm a married father of two and I'm an atheist because nothing else makes sense. My wife believes in God but I can hardly tell. My children both go to Catholic schools. Go figure. Complex is relative. Also simple for that matter. Anyway, I'm excited about finding this site and I'm looking forward to sharing your experiences, wisdom, and insights. By the way, I'm located in Brooklyn, NY.

Comment by Dr. Mush Peets 1 day ago Delete Comment I am from the Island of St.Kitts/Nevis. It's such a breath of fresh air to be in the mists of people of like minds. Especially seeing some of my Caribbean brothers on this list, is heart warming. Knowing that most West Indian Massives are totally burdened down by the so called "beast of burden"(organized religious dogma)...Or "the abject wholesale worshipping of our wicked slave master."
Yet, our ignorant and naive parents had no problem forcing us, their children, to bend over for more abuse from the colonial masters of mass deception.
Luckily, I was stubborn to a fault, and was able to escape the throes of this destructive evil religious indoctrination(Christianity), in my mid teens. Now I can really think for myself, and enjoy it immensely.
Again...Free at last! Free at last! all thanks to Mother Nature...I'm free at last.

I'm so happy I found this group! I was beginning to think I was going crazy because I couldn't find anyone else in the Caribbean who shared the same belief (or lack thereof rather).
