This October in Montreal, Canada the 16th annual AAI convention

Atheists Without Borders
AAI-HC 2010 Convention

Local hosts: Atheist Freethinkers and CFI Montreal

It is here! The most anticipated North American atheist convention of the year. With fresh line of speakers and plethora of entertainment, you sure don't want to miss this event.

Join us in Montreal for AAI's annual North American convention, "Atheists Without Borders." This theme expresses our vision of an international movement, going beyond political and cultural borders, uniting atheists and humanists in one virtual nation defined by our commitment to freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, human rights, critical thought, science and reason. This event will be AAI's first North American convention outside the United States and the first in collaboration with Humanist Canada, a national organization.

Our roster of esteemed speakers includes both American icons of freethought and outstanding Canadian and European scholars and activists. The three-day convention is centred around more than twenty workshops as well as several plenary sessions, addressing issues of keen interest to nonbelievers, such as religion-State separation, secularism, the history of freethought, the defence of education against religious encroachment and strategies for combatting fundamentalism -- in particular islamofascism. Join us as well in congratulating this year's Richard Dawkins Award recipient, Susan Jacoby, author of Freethinkers: A History of American Secularism.

I just moved to Kelowna, BC and wondered what sort of resources there are here for atheists. Does anyone know of any meet-up groups?

As an atheist I find today to be a day to think with sincerity and a clear focus on humanity. Although I hear the speeches that are made today, speckled with references of theism, I find that 'people' are usually the subject rather than an opportunity to make an apophatic rant about dogma.

Today is an appropriate day to feel sad and reflective. For tomorrow and the rest of your life you can cheer and celebrate. For today just remember.

Have you guys been following the move to de-God the University of Alberta's convocation ceremony? Basically, the chancellor tells the grads they should use their education "To the Glory of God". Lots of uproar in Alberta, at least. Go to the U of A Atheists and Agnostics here:

Hey there, from very rural SK. I'm mostly in the closet because a few attempts to come out have resulted in having to avoid friends because every time they saw us they felt they needed to save us. Life was easier when I just politely changed the subject to avoid religious discussions. It's like an intervention to them or something.
For now I'll just keep things on the down low, but I am happy to have found this site!!

Originally from Saskatchewan but moved to the southern US over a year ago for school. Major culture shock to say the very least. Anyone who thinks Canada is plagued with religion needs to take a visit to the bible belt of America...truly scary stuff in my opinion.

Hi fellow Canayjans,

I live in Vancouver, but I'm originally from the Toronto area. I am happy to say that some of my best friends are atheists. I think there are more of us out there than what is commonly believed.

The longer I am an atheist, the more I find belief in God to be completely untenable. I hope to connect with some kindred "souls" here.

Hello from rural Alberta just west of Red Deer. This area between Red Deer and Rocky Mountain House is a hot bed for the born again xtians.
Travel here is very dangerous, you may get preached at any moment.
One small town has 5 churches and was the home of our nearly Prime Minister, Stockwell Day, an nice guy but not up to speed on evolution
at all. He got turfed out as leader of the party for some reason, can't imagine what.
Any way this a great site and I'm glad it's happening.

'Lo all. Long-time skeptic and atheist, but new to the whole "community" idea. So glad to see that there are other godless heathens out there ;-)
