Welcome

The photo displayed is of Harlem soapbox orator, agitator, popular educator, & atheist Hubert Henry Harrison.

Documentation of black atheism, freethought, & humanism on the web can be found in my atheist web guide.

See also my working bibliography.

I also have a general interest blog, Reason & Society.

Some of you may also be interested in some of my other projects, e.g. The Autodidact Project, my Studies in a Dying Culture (blog), and my Emergence blog. You can also listen to my podcasts: my Internet radio show is called "Studies in a Dying Culture," hosted by Think Twice Radio.

Welcome. Speaking of Atlanta, whatever became of Gary Booker, who was a real powerhouse there?

Again, welcome to all newcomers. 10 more members and we will reach 300. Some time ago this was the largest English-speaking group of this kind on the Internet, but then there was a sudden jump in a couple of the Facebook groups that put one or more of them way ahead, which is all to the good. The more the merrier on all groups.

A belated welcome to all who recently joined this group. My energies are scattered in several directions at once and I can't always give everyone the attention deserved. I am way behind in writing for my own blog, but if you want to check it out:

One theme that is emerging (though I haven't written all the posts yet) is not new, but it is being confirmed by the public discourse: i.e. that the moderates are de facto serving the right wing. More on this to come.

Loren Miller replied to matthew greenberg's discussion Pope Francis says even Atheists go to Heaven
"Hmmm, an outreach to atheists from the pope?  I wonder ... is this an attempt at engagement and maybe a dialogue ... or is it an act of desperation from an organization which may finally be recognizing that it is failing at both engagement and…"

Recovering from Religion

Unless you were raised by atheist parents, you probably had some recovering to do when you left religion. The purpose of RR is to provide a landing place for people when they jump from religion. With local support groups throughout the US, Canada, UK, and Australia, and real-time resources accessible to everyone, RR is where to turn when faith has lost its luster.See More
