Welcome

The photo displayed is of Harlem soapbox orator, agitator, popular educator, & atheist Hubert Henry Harrison.

Documentation of black atheism, freethought, & humanism on the web can be found in my atheist web guide.

See also my working bibliography.

I also have a general interest blog, Reason & Society.

Some of you may also be interested in some of my other projects, e.g. The Autodidact Project, my Studies in a Dying Culture (blog), and my Emergence blog. You can also listen to my podcasts: my Internet radio show is called "Studies in a Dying Culture," hosted by Think Twice Radio.

@Kianna...I told my Mom when I was 15...fortunately, she is not like the other witnesses and still talks to me and has a relationship with me

If you intend to pursue this topic, start a discussion, as I don't want to see this wall cluttered with ongoing discussion. Secondly, I expect an amplification of your interest to accompany your question, since we are here to inform and learn and not just play games with people.

Leonard Jeffries is a vile crackpot. How many Afrocentric charlatans are atheists?

It's not enough I joined "Funk Soul Society".

I don't think I'll ever admit my beliefs or lack of to my mother, she's a JW and would have a damn heart attack, I guess some things are better left unsaid

OK until I approached this segment:

Vacuum energy -> 0; weighing the universe -> weight of empty space; dark matter is everywhere; universe must be flat, with total energy 0: begins from nothing. Where is 70%?--dark energy--empty space weighs something, there it is. Physics as cosmic natural selection?--bad idea, as is string theory. Cosmology will end with expansion of the universe as the rest of the universe outside this galaxy becomes imperceptible. There is something fundamentally conceptually wrong Kraus' way of thinking, but it would take a physicist to negotiate the relationship between the empirical data, the mathematics, the ordinary language translation of this information, and the philosophical framework within which all this is interpreted. The Q-A reveals the problems. It's difficult to wrestle with infinity. Ha!

Do you mean vitriolic rants for or against religion? In any case, here you'll find a variety of moods, attitudes, ideas, and viewpoints, mostly of an intellectually constructive nature, even when negative.

Many thanks for the welcome. I've been looking for an open-minded community where those of the Diaspora could discuss ideas. I've found many of those I find online are only interested in vitriolic rants and hate. Hopefully, this group will be different.

We're up to 199 members. Who's going to be the lucky 200th?
