I see. So now we're talking not only about the biological origin of the human race but the earliest civilization. That's part of what you mean by connecting the dots. Very well. And once we connect them, then what? Do we value the ancient more than the modern? Vice versa? My problem is when people make claims that go beyond factual claims. Some claim that all civilization is a mistake, that we never should have been suckered into cultivating plants. Indeed, when one turns real history into metaphysics one can make any value claim one wishes. I prefer living in the modern world, thank you, and when it comes to ancient civilizations, it's six of one, half a dozen of the other.

.... I think that any-one taking care enough , to perform a bit of home-work/independant research , will un-cover a wealth of data supporting those who claim that 'sophisticated' civilization originated in black africa ...

Suppose remains were discovered in China that antedated all others. Then we would be, ipso facto, all of Chinese dissent. This would mean one or more of three things:

(1) Barring some major evolutionary divergence, the human race is biologically the same for all intents and purposes;

(2) We are all really Chinese (which means what to us, culturally?);

(3) We should stop disrespecting the Chinese, because we descended from them or their ancestors.

I guess it would be shocking for some ill-informed racial supremacist to learn something like this. However, in the larger scheme of things, what difference does it make what geographical point of origin the human species has? Why should we give a shit one way or the other? But yes, the reconstruction of the biological history of the species is important; equally important is the reconstruction of its social history, which interacts with the biological, but requires an analysis on a different level. If this is a discussion worth pursuing, then perhaps we should start one in the discussion section.

Welcome, Claudia. I look forward to learning more about your historical research.

Perhaps a further dissemination of the long-known fact of the African origin of human life will give some people perspective. Ultimately I don't think there's anything deep about that, as polygenesis was discredited long ago. But maybe the Darwin-deniers still think we all belong to different species. You know, there's a lot of basic stuff I learned back in grade school decades ago that most Americans don't know now, given how bad our educational systems are.

I live in the 'liberal' bay area of California, and one would think I would be able to find a few AAAtheists here, but...no luck...the closest I could find was a 'deist', but at least he didn't run away screaming when I told him I was a-theist!

Scattered few we seem to be across these United States. The term "outcast" seems to not be too much of a stretch at all to use the days when in reference to black atheist. It's nice to know your not the only black who feels this way, but I know least I sense rather in the black community things not too far behind that we are only the ones willing to acknowledge our atheism...so many I feel go through the motions of their faith whilst at the same time not really believing in the first place or just do so out of some false sense of familial honor.
