The religious Spaniards converted one set of tribal leaders to Christianity, than passed out guns so that they can hunt down their fellow Africans. Then it was used to justify slavery, first by being the used as divine benevolence, then being the only thing allowed to be taught/read by blacks. I often wonder, if blacks had not accepted the religion that the Christian abolitionists were spreading, if we might not have made it out of slavery at all. No, I definitely don't hold a special place in my heart for that book.
