Hoatzin (Opisthocomus hoazin) Hoatzin is a very peculiar, large, prehistoric-appearing bird of Amazonian rivers and lakes. An arboreal cow: feeds on leaves, which are digested in a specialized crop and foregut. Nest is a stick platform over water. Wings of nestlings have claws(lost later in life); drop into the water when threatened, then use the claws to climb back to nest...
As Mr. Spock would say, "fascinating".
