Insecticides based on nicotine are widely suspected as culprits in the dramatic decline of both domestic and wild bees. Now it turns out they're just as bad for aquatic food chains and BIRDS.“A single corn kernel coated with a neonicotinoid can kill…Continue

By Stefanie Foreman on March 4, 2012 8:47 PM Everyone knows that birds sing songs to communicate with each other. Different songs are used to warn other of predators, attract mates, and find food. But how far do these songs really go? How complex…Continue

I am so thrilled to have painted buntings come to my feeder. Here is a video showing what they look like, but these are not the actual birds that are at my feeder. The video is just to show a pair.…Continue

We've had a slow start to spring this year in northern Virginia, But, the Osprey are back and working diligently on their nests. I spotted the first pairs here along the Potomac about 2 weeks ago. What other migrations have begun?Continue

Can anyone recommend their favorite sunflower seed feeder? What shape do you prefer? How do you clean them?
Comment by Karl Ford on November 16, 2012 at 12:46pm Thanks, Steph. But like I said, I take pix of birds. Don't necessarily know a lot about them. Here are two Sandhill Cranes taking a break, which you don't often see them do at the same time. Just like when they eat, one usually keeps watch. The one with his eye open is watching me trying to get close. I titled it, "Insomnia." Sandhills are protected here in FL, and they walk around like they own the place. More later! Karl
Hello Karl thanks so much for joining. Those are wonderful pictures.
You will enjoy it here.

Comment by Karl Ford on November 16, 2012 at 8:17am Hello, I'm a professional photographer that just happens to take a lot of pix of birds, especially since I moved to Florida. The variety here is amazing, and I've gotten some great shots. Steph S. invited me some time ago if I wanted to post some, so...

Hey Tony!
I'll answer your question with a discussion on the difference.
It would take the whole board up here.
I love the new bird photos you posted.
How pretty.

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film. The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons. He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"! .
No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes. 'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands. Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day. however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more. in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.
I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).
THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
