Don't know if anyone is following this group any more, but I thought I'd throw out a couple things:

  • The site b5books.com is releasing Babylon 5 at 20, a beautifully produced coffee-table book which documents a lot of the production and behind-the-scenes stuff which went into that classic series
  • Sadly, much as I would have loved to see it happen, there will be no Blu-Ray release of the Babylon 5 series.  The problem is the special effects, which were done in standard definition and would not tolerate the up-conversion to 1080p well at all.  They would have to be redone at considerable expense.

I've ordered the book and I have the entire series ... and I still wish that something were still going on with the B5 universe.  Damn, but that was good stuff!

Love Babylon 5.  Terribly under rated.  I still watch episodes on netflix instant watch, where they are showing all the seasons.

I think a spin-off from B5 is unlikely, Orange. "Crusade" was a semi-disaster since there was a lot of conflicts among the producers at TNT, and I THINK episodes may have been aired out of order. "The Legend of the Rangers" was (to me, anyway) an unmitigated disaster. "The Lost Tales" was pretty good, but by that time, two more very real disasters occurred: the deaths of Richard Biggs and Andreas Katsulas. I won't claim to know JMS's mind, but I think he's just moved on ... but Babylon 5 as it is remains at the pinnacle of TV science-fiction for me.

None. The lightbulb has always been there.

You are not ready for lightbulbs, yet.

Babylon 5 the series was some of the best and most imaginative science-fiction I had seen in a long time, and this is coming from a guy who was a Trekker from 8 September, 1966 onward. It set itself completely apart from Star Trek, created its own reality and made its own statement with great acting, credible characters and story lines that didn't resolve nice and neat after 60 minutes (or 43, if you wanna get technical!).

Since B-5, the only thing I've seen that will race with it is Firefly-Serenity, and THAT is different in an entirely different vector!

How fantastic to find a B5 group. I am a massive fan and was recently given the entire boxed set of the show including films. I'm saving it for a wee holiday when I won't be interrupted watching it. I watched it avidly until the final series when the tv channel decided to broadcast it in the middle of the night. I'm still out of the loop on that part, but hope to catch up soon.

Did it raise existential questions for anybody else?

Love the show. I own everything on DVD with the exception of Lost tales. I even have Crusade and the Rangers movie. My favourite characters were G'Kar and Londo. I also liked Sinclair slightly more than Sheridan.

One of the things that fascinates me with Babylon 5 is that the Minari religion makes more sense than most of the ones people believe today.
