Another High Court Challenge Against the National School Chaplaincy Program

Website: http://www.highcourtchallenge.com

Breaking News! After successfully challenging the Commonwealth government in the High Court of Australia over funding for the National School Chaplaincy Scheme, Ron Williams is to take them on again.  In an attempt to circumvent the High Court ruling, the government has passed some extremely questionable legislation which tears at the heart of parliamentary democracy and public accountability.  Williams has consulted with his crack legal team and the decision has been made today (Saturday, 7 July) to mount another challenge.

For more information see here:

http://thatsmyphilosophy.wordpress.com/2012/07/07/its-on-williams-to-return-to-the-high-court-on-chaplaincy-issue/

Mounting a High Court challenge is extremely expensive and Ron Williams is just an average, suburban Dad.  If all of us who care about a secular, democratic Australia can chip in as much as we can, it will help enormously.  Please consider donating at:

This is your chance to be a part of making Australian Constitutional history!

Embiggen Books - Your Australian Atheist/Skeptical Bookshop

Embiggen Books, an Australian bookstore devoted to promoting science, philosophy, rationalism and skepticism is now on Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne. Warren Bonett and Kirsty Bruce of Embiggen are also passionate and active members of the atheist and skeptical communities.

Australian Atheist Issues

For new members, if you want to get a grasp of some of the issues effecting atheists in Australia, you might like to take a look at the Atheist Nexus (Australia) submission on "Freedom of Religion and Belief in the 21st Century" made to the Australian Human Rights Commission early last year. It's long, but easy reading, and worth spending some time on. A report, using information compiled from submissions, should be released later this year.

Oh! Added bonus for us girls (and some of the guys). The new president of JREF is DJ Grothe. He might be gay but he's pretty cute! Love listening to him - can't wait to meet him.

Yes! TAM in Sydney in November 2010! I'll be there and hope to see many of our Nexus members as well - let's keep up the momentum from the Global Atheist Convention and show that we're not just a one hit wonder!

!! Can it be true?! Our very own TAM Australia? ;_; No longer must I dream of one day having a real job and being able to fly myself and my husband to Las Vegas! ...And in Sydney, no less! I can't get to Melbourne, but Sydney is easy as.

Oh, by the way, in case our Kiwi members feel excluded by the new icon, it is temporary. It was just so good, we couldn't resist putting it up. I will try to get a logo for our group designed next year - one that will be sufficiently inclusive - unless, by that time, the Kiwis have sufficient numbers to form their own breakaway group. We'll be guided by our members on this.

Or we could just tie Abbott, Pell and Jim Wallace to the cross?

Screw scissors, the flagpole's metal. Fire's the solution.

I think that's what we're all, collectively, trying to do m'Lord. ;-)

Hey all - hope you like the new group logo - taken from article in this week's National Times.

Black and I just loved the imagery of the crucifix lashed to the mast of Australia's Parliament House.

Nice quotes from Convention presenters on Tony Abbott's appointment as leader of the opposition. Lyn Allison, Max Wallace, Ian Robinson (Rationalist Society), Jane Caro and David Nicholls (AFA).

See this discussion.

Hi Paul! What an exciting time for you to join us! Article in the National Times, possible DDoS attack on AFA and Atheist Convention websites, Black coming out of the closet (at last!) and Luke parading around in a neck to knee swimming cozzie. (See comments below). It's a three ring circus here at the moment! But welcome!
