Another High Court Challenge Against the National School Chaplaincy Program

Website: http://www.highcourtchallenge.com

Breaking News! After successfully challenging the Commonwealth government in the High Court of Australia over funding for the National School Chaplaincy Scheme, Ron Williams is to take them on again.  In an attempt to circumvent the High Court ruling, the government has passed some extremely questionable legislation which tears at the heart of parliamentary democracy and public accountability.  Williams has consulted with his crack legal team and the decision has been made today (Saturday, 7 July) to mount another challenge.

For more information see here:

http://thatsmyphilosophy.wordpress.com/2012/07/07/its-on-williams-to-return-to-the-high-court-on-chaplaincy-issue/

Mounting a High Court challenge is extremely expensive and Ron Williams is just an average, suburban Dad.  If all of us who care about a secular, democratic Australia can chip in as much as we can, it will help enormously.  Please consider donating at:

This is your chance to be a part of making Australian Constitutional history!

Embiggen Books - Your Australian Atheist/Skeptical Bookshop

Australian Atheist Issues

For new members, if you want to get a grasp of some of the issues effecting atheists in Australia, you might like to take a look at the Atheist Nexus (Australia) submission on "Freedom of Religion and Belief in the 21st Century" made to the Australian Human Rights Commission early last year. It's long, but easy reading, and worth spending some time on. A report, using information compiled from submissions, should be released later this year.

Welcome aboard Annie! Looking forward to meeting you at the Convention.

Ha ha! It's an old Irish Pagan tradition originating from the Maori nose rub greeting - only we go one step further and pluck out the nostril hairs. It helps to build trust. ;-)

LOL! Now THAT's meeting someone!

Thanks Luke! I'll definately recognise THAT nostril!! Do you mind if I do some tweezing on it while you are up so close? I think I might see a few strays in there. There's another eyebrow avatar (Dan Dare) that needs a bit of a clean up too. Must remember to pack those tweezers. ;-)

You'll recognise me, Annie. I'll get up real close and sniff you! :)

Hello everyone, I joined a few days ago but have not really had a chance to have a good look around. It's great to be here. Unfortunately Chrys, it's one more Aussie but I do have dual citizenship with Ireland too so that might mean I'm only adding .5 to the Aussie tally. Ive also visited NZ often so that .5 might be diluted with some kiwi influence by now too. Actually, don't count me at all. It's too confusing. ;-) Anyway, Im looking forward to finding my way around here and getting to know some more rational people. I see there are lots of people from the AFA here too which is great. I am really looking forwrd to the Convention and being able to replace avatars with real faces. Thanks Chrys for being a face I will recognise! ;-)

Richard J - I understand that plans are underway to make a DVD of the Convention. I don't know whether it will be released as edited highlights or as a full recording of the proceedings - or maybe both.

Praxis - Mr Black's real name isn't John Smith, so you can rest easy. On the other hand, Felch Grogan's real name is Felch Grogan and there's nothing the poor lad can do about it. :-(

Meanwhile, Felch and Black have decided to follow suit and reveal their true identities:

You and Felch can still call me Krusty, Black.

When I first joined Atheist Nexus, for personal reasons, I decided to do so under a slightly altered version of my real name - Kristy Vensson.

Circumstances have now changed and I think it is appropriate that I change my profile name to my real name - Chrys Stevenson.

I hope this won't cause too much confusion, but I have found keeping two identities on the internet is becoming unwieldy and unnecessary.

Chrys
