Another High Court Challenge Against the National School Chaplaincy Program

Website: http://www.highcourtchallenge.com

Breaking News! After successfully challenging the Commonwealth government in the High Court of Australia over funding for the National School Chaplaincy Scheme, Ron Williams is to take them on again.  In an attempt to circumvent the High Court ruling, the government has passed some extremely questionable legislation which tears at the heart of parliamentary democracy and public accountability.  Williams has consulted with his crack legal team and the decision has been made today (Saturday, 7 July) to mount another challenge.

For more information see here:

http://thatsmyphilosophy.wordpress.com/2012/07/07/its-on-williams-to-return-to-the-high-court-on-chaplaincy-issue/

Mounting a High Court challenge is extremely expensive and Ron Williams is just an average, suburban Dad.  If all of us who care about a secular, democratic Australia can chip in as much as we can, it will help enormously.  Please consider donating at:

This is your chance to be a part of making Australian Constitutional history!

Embiggen Books - Your Australian Atheist/Skeptical Bookshop

Embiggen Books, an Australian bookstore devoted to promoting science, philosophy, rationalism and skepticism is now on Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne. Warren Bonett and Kirsty Bruce of Embiggen are also passionate and active members of the atheist and skeptical communities.

Australian Atheist Issues

For new members, if you want to get a grasp of some of the issues effecting atheists in Australia, you might like to take a look at the Atheist Nexus (Australia) submission on "Freedom of Religion and Belief in the 21st Century" made to the Australian Human Rights Commission early last year. It's long, but easy reading, and worth spending some time on. A report, using information compiled from submissions, should be released later this year.

Bruce Everett of Thinkers' Podium responds eloquently to the abuse on behalf of atheists. Please read and comment.

George Pell - so many lies! link
"Christianity changed all this." NO it didn't.
"The many excellent government agencies are religiously neutral, secular and not anti-God, paid for largely by the taxes of the Christian majority," Don't atheists pay taxes??
"But we find no community services sponsored by the atheists." Lies, all lies George.

44,913 - that's not an insignificant sample from a newspaper that is of general readership. Better still, 800 comments with a large number stating openly they will never trust Labor ever again.

@Kid: Already involved with ASP. With any luck ASP will take the balance of power of the Family First senator. He's not helping us netizens at all.

Viva la République de l'internet!
Leave all these interfering meat puppets to their stupid rules and religions.

Write a book review to win a book!

Review any book on Atheist Nexus member, Warren Bonett's Embiggen Books online store and you will have a chance to win your choice of: Orwell Diaries, Nature’s Clocks or Darwin’s Sacred Cause.

Embiggen Books is a science, philosophy and art bookstore, so there's sure to be a title you've already read and want to review.

It's funny to think that a globally irrelevant thing like an Australian Senator thinks he can school Google on how the internet works. His main beef with Google was that they said that they "love cash" during a presentation to Wall Street... the home of loving cash. This shows the anti-business stance of the Rudd government. By Conroy's assessment, if Google (through some bout of insanity) offered to re-locate to Australia or increase their Australian operations he would have to say knock them back because they love cash a bit too much for Conroy's taste.

The major difference between Google and Conroy is that Google very quickly fixed what people didn't like. They misread the market and reacted according to the will of the masses. The kind of thing that one would expect from a politician, yes? Vote One The Google Party!

This is the Radio National discussion on the net filter. Link:

It all comes back to the old adage... Oops. Wandered off to another tab. Damned tabbed browsing and my short attention span. This paragraph started an hour ago now I've forgot that old adage. It suffices to say that it was particularly relevant.

Senator Conroy! Why can't you legislate against me having too many tabs open. You know it makes me forget what I'm talking about.

(Wanders off muttering...)

Maria Proctor of the Qld Humanists has advised us of a protest to be held a Parliament House, Brisbane on Tuesday, 13 April at 8.30am.

I know it's a difficult day and time, but if any of you would like to join me there, it would be great to see you. I think this is an important cause and it would be good to give it our support.

Get Secular Back in the Act - Protest

Start Date/Time: Tuesday, April 13, 2010 8:30 AM
End Date/Time: Tuesday, April 13, 2010 10:30 PM

WE WANT INCLUSIVE SCHOOL COMMUNITIES!

WE WANT A PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM THAT IS FREE, SECULAR AND WELCOME TO ALL!

Protest against 100 years of religious privilege in Queensland!

When introduced in 1875, the Queensland Education Act guaranteed a free and secular education for every child. A controversial referendum in 1910 allowed ministers of religion to conduct religious instruction and bible lessons. Every incidence of the word secular was removed from the Act. During the succeeding 100 years this amendment has resulted in religion (particularly Christianity) being given a privleged position within our education system. We want to see an education system that respects the right of children to freedom of religion and belief.

Join us at the gates of Parliament House from 8:30 am!

Speakers at the protest will include Dr Max Wallace and HSQ President, Maria Proctor.
For further details phone/ text Maria on: 0438 630 450

Wear the freethought and secular colours of yellow and purple to show your support!
