The tea can be collected either through the worm Bin process, by having a spigot / valve attached, OR you can create the castings, soak in water and pull off. Both are effective, and you still have the castings to add to your plants. Many people use an under sink stacking trays to process food scrap and paper. I suspect you know this, but thought it might help if you did not :-)

I think worms are an excellent way to use your kitchen scraps and recycle paper. I have been raising worms as a hobby for a few years now and find the worm dirt to work better than commercial fertilizer for our gardens. Basically if you are consistent at storing your recycled paper, have bins for your wet garbage to collect it, the use of worm castings can be a very inexpensive way to improve the world.

I have raised worms for the various pets I have had, for their food. Turtles, toads,lizards,rats..... I had a horrible experience when I was a kid,I had found these huge night crawlers under a board and thought these guys r so cool. My first instinct was to feed em, so I thought sweet easy to eat humming bird juice from the feeder they would love....Worms can drown.....

Hi Pirate Bard.

I'm a member of a yahoo group on worm farming. You might be able to locate someone in your area to help you get started with some worms. Be careful how you ask for freebies. They can be a little tetchy cuase some of them are trying to make a living selling them. To that I say: The best way to make a small fortune from worm farming is to start with a large fortune. I've started wormbins with worms from tackle and bait/fishing shops. It's a slow start because they generally don't sell worms in large lots but it can be done if you're patient.

I joined because we'll be starting a vermiculture composting bin soon, and I think it's nice to know others who do the same to share information with.

On that note, any good recommendations for where to get my starter worms?

I joined to show support. Worms gross me out, but I see what you're saying. My parents were hippies. They did organic gardening. I was blown away by hearing about hydroponic gardening and bio dome gardening as a kid. But when I even look at house plants, they die.
