Hey, thanks for creating this group! I'd been meaning to create a travel group for a while, but just don't have the time to moderate another group.

I thought of this after taking a cruise of the Western Caribbean. I looked at the 1000+ people on the cruise, and I knew that a portion of them were probably freethinkers, but it's not like we have a secret handshake!

we need a secret handshake!

I know. We're at least as smart as the Freemasons, right? Even smarter! We could come up with a kick-ass secret handshake.

I generally just enjoy pretending I am Vulcan.

I could never figure out how to do the Vulan salute.
Comment by The Big Blue Frog on July 26, 2010 at 8:46am
Susan, the actress who played Spock's grandmother couldn't do the salute either. They had to tape her fingers together.
Comment by Al-KADIM on July 26, 2010 at 9:20am
The origin of the salute is interesting. It was chosen by Leonard Nimoy from the traditional hand gesture used in priestly blessings from religious Jewish services. They do it with both hands though.

Hi All,
Maybe this is not what this page is about, but if any of you want personal recommendations about places I've been to MORE THAN ONCE and have a reasonable knowledge of, feel free to ask.
Currently I feel able to give advice on travel in Ireland, France (Paris, Brittany, Normandy, the Dordogne), Netherlands (mainly Amsterdam), Belguim (Brussels, Bruges) Spain (Costa del Sol, Costa Brave) UK (London, Liverpool, Wales), Germany (Berlin, Cologne).
Perhaps this is not the purpose of this blog, if so, sorry.
However if it is, feel free to make contact

Jack, that's exactly what this group is for! It's not just about meeting up with people. It's also about getting reviews from rational folk about popular destinations.

Speaking of which, I took a 7-day cruise in April on Carnival Cruise Line out of Tampa, Florida to Grand Cayman; Cozumel, Mexico; Belize City, Belize and Isla Roatan, Honduras. If anyone's looking at travel in the Western Caribbean, I have been there.

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 5 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…
