Whether you're a professional, a student, an amateur, an enthusiast, whatever! Lots of atheists love science. Might as well have a group for it!

Feel free to nerd out, link articles, talk about your favorite field of research, whatever!

I've been super busy with school this semester -- no time for Atheist Nexus, sadly!!
If anyone who's around here a lot wants me to toss them moderation privileges to run this group or anything, just send me (Sara) a message! Thanks!

Removed ability to send mass messages to everyone in the group. At 1000+ members, that seems like asking for spam.

Offer still open if anyone active in the group wants moderation privileges, but it appears everything has been going smoothly with all kinds of great discussions without moderation. Fantastic! :)

L.A. museum being sued for not showing anti-evolution film.

On it's Vimeo page, the American Freedom Alliance bills itself as a non-political, non partisan, movement of concerned Americans which identifies threats to western civilization. Currently, one of the threats to western civilization they are most concerned with is the cancellation of a screening of Darwin's Dilemma, an anti-evolution documentary, by Los Angeles's California Science Center.

So they're alleging that their freedom of speech was denied due to pressure from the Smithsonian Institute and the scientific community... And they're suing.

More here.

You really should check out their page on Vimeo. These guys remind me so much of the John Birch Society that I was surprised they haven't also come out against the fluoridation of water and Communism in the State Department!

In this week’s eSkeptic, Steuart Campbell discusses the evidence (or lack thereof) of the phenomenon known as ball lightning.

Neil Shubin, author of Your Inner Fish, has released a PowerPoint of the illustrations from the book. Grab it here.

I haven't read the book but the following family tree is almost priceless (truly priceless is the tree at the beginning of Idiocracy.) The other slides are much more to the point of illustrating A Journey into the 3.5-Billion Year History of the Human Body as the subtitle explains.

A letter from a Welsh librarian published today on the New Humanist magazine website exposes a new tactic by a British affiliate of the Discovery Institute for insinuating Intelligent Design textbooks into school libraries. The letter is reprinted here...

What the guy in that video said pleases me. No one believes in evolution. Everyone who says that they "don't believe in it" doesn't understand it, and those who do understand it also understand that it is not a matter of belief.
