Final Exit Network is being targeted for prosecution by the State of Georgia on the claim that they are providing assisted suicide. They are NOT. Listen to today's show, as Jerry Dincin explains what they do and why, and why the State of Georgia has taken this action.

The Humanism of Star Trek

When Majel Barrett Rodenberry died, I thought of how much that Gene Roddenberry had influenced the presentation of humanism and atheism on television. The original series mocked the idea of Gods as petulant aliens who, instead of aiming towards a more purposeful existence in the galaxy, sought to have worship to feed and amuse them. Or, they were presented as disembodied advanced beings gambling on the actions of people out of their own boredom. The Next Generation moved more towards the humanist exposition of dealing with ethics without appealing to supernatural reliance.

Scott Lohman, president of the Humanists of Minnesota, and author Robert Price are both big fans of Star Trek and science fiction in general. We are trying something new on Atheists Talk. We are moving away from the standard "Interviewer/Guest" format into a dialog between two guests.

Listen live on Sunday Morning at 9:00 am CDT (US) or download the podcast once it has been up. Dress in your favorite Star Trek costume and get ready to call in!

On Sunday we have PZ Myers in the studio to talk about the Galapagos Islands and his recent trek there. We invite all local Minneapolis/St Paul atheists to join us at Q. Cumbers at 75th and France in Edina for a brung meetup thingy following the show. TIP YOUR SERVERS.

Meet us at the Minnesota State Fair. I forgot to post last Sunday's show but if you go to the Radio Show page at the mnatheists.org website, you can listen to the podcast. This Sunday we are going to broadcast live from the State Fair once again, and our guests will be members of the Humanists of Minnesota.

This Coming Sunday will be an interesting show. August Berkshire has been an occasional guest on KKMS AM980. It's a Christian show drive time show. They are returning the favor and the hosts will be live in our studio to continue a conversation on religion and atheism. It will be respectful, but provocative. More details soon.
