Thanks Dylan -- I'll check that out.

Hi all.

I read an article in Scientific American on speciation and it provides a web-link to evolution.berkeley.edu/evolibrary/home.php

which provides a fun college freshman-level overview of evolution, if anyone is interested.

That sounds awesome... I don't have cable :( We just have a few basic channels.

Hey all -- thought you might like to see this new show.

The Discovery Channel is hosting a new program, Curiosity, that aims to provoke thought and discussion and ask the “fundamental questions facing the world today”. Their first episode (Sunday Aug. 7th, 8 p.m. ET/PT) will be a special with the eminent Stephen Hawking titled, “Is There a Creator?”

Roughly 1 in 8 of high school teachers whom teach biology in the United States teach it from a creationist stance.  Personally I don't care how a person squares their religion with evolution.  But I don't for a second agree with this religious bullshit that some theists constantly seek to interject into the classroom.  Evolution is a fact for all intents and purposes when discussing it in common parlance.

I don't think there are very many biologists who have serious doubts about the ubiquitousness of life in the universe.

Sorry, "Increased Odds."  My mistake.

Tripling the estimate of the number of stars in the universe is not old news. Not only was that number increased, but red dwarf stars are long-lived and stable. This impacts the Drake equation and that's always a popular game.

"Greatly Increased Odds of Complex Life in the Universe"  states just about everything you can say about the topic.  It's also old news.  Not only that, but how can anyone still believe that our planet is the only in the universe that supports life?

Look at all the "dead" topics on Origins, which simply restate a headline.

Nothing terrible about making a topic interesting.
