The crickets are chirping here in TN as well. I'm glad to see everyone on here though...makes you feel not so alone, knowing I'm not the only one in this big ole boat ;) Could always use more atheist friends!! Anyone interested in being facebook friends shoot me a message!! Getting tired of the daily bible quotes from my "friends" on the unenlightened side!!!

Hello Myke, and welcome! Sucks to be sick but hey. that's what the internet is for, right? Kick back, look around, slide on up to our virtual singles bar here and enjoy the lovely Theist-free atmosphere.

**Shameless plug warning**

To *truly* thank the admins, click the green 'donate' button on the right side of the screen. Or, next time you do an Amazon.com order, do so by clicking through on the Amazon link also on the right of the screen (Atheist Nexus gets a little commission of the sale that way).

No, I'm not an admin or profit in anyway - just a longtime member who is also most grateful for this Theist-free safe haven and giddy to see this site succeed! ;-)

Hello I'm from New York vacationing in Georgia. Up late, sick because of this fluctuating weather, glad to be on this amazing site, thank you admins. And hello to everyone!

@ Jared - Women competing for status. This is why, much as I hate to be biased against my own gender, I cringe when I get a woman for a boss or supervisor. There are lots of women out there who really seem threatened by women like me who are intelligent, confident, and *not* after their job. Seriously, it seems like it's worse than if I *were* trying to get the promotion. The whole competitiveness thing is wildly annoying.

Not that male bosses don't come with their own sets of general flaws, and they can be just as petty/gossipy/competitive as female bosses.

*Sigh.* I sure hope the Anthropology/Archaeology degree I'm working on leads to a job that entails me, a tent, a remote location, and no one else for miles and miles around.

Well, maybe one other person. A single, male, hunky, compatible coworker. But that's it.

Also at George: I figure it's at least partly for the same reason as the other "I don't get that" things that women do--to compete with other women for that quiet-but-present sort of status (rather than the obvious sort that wolves and baboons have).

@ George - Saw in a History Channel documentary some time ago a theory that heels ultimately boil down to 'hobbling' a woman, thereby invoking the save-the-damsel-in-distress instinct in men. A play on the biological dichotomy of women wanting a man to rescue/help them and men wanting to be the rescuer/helper.

No idea what the documentary was ultimately about and it was years ago, so feel free to sooooo not quote me on that. But it makes sense to me. I see absolutely zero value in high heels whatsoever other than to hobble us and make us more dependent on a man - or woman in comfortable running shoes - to save the day.

I guess I am just an Ol' hippie. I really want to know why women wear high heels. Is it just to be sexy for men? If you ask me it is terrible for anyones feet and is something like Chinesse foot binding. Where did high heels came from?
