Here, read this.  It breaks down what life was like for people prior to the New Deal coming to fruition.

i would give a lot more to charity if i wasn't forced to give money to state charities... which, interestingly, are inefficient compared to private charity.

i think it is immoral to take money from somebody by force and then give it to somebody else. that being said, i do care about the poor and i do give to charity because it makes me feel good... which is selfish.

  • i basically like that objectivism is against altruism and being against serving anyone or being served by anyone.
And I don't.  I can ... barely ... stomach an argument against state-imposed altruism.  I don't agree with them, but I can at least see their arguments.  Anyone who argues against any and all altruism just disgusts me.

45 mins into this video and i think their problems with objectivism don't align with what i thought objectivism was... based on youtube interviews of ayn rand. also they bring up exactly the objections that mike wallace brought up in 1959 and to which i thought ayn rand's explanations holds up pretty well to those objections.

i basically like that objectivism is against altruism and being against serving anyone or being served by anyone.

Objectivism is full of just as many bald assertions and arguments from ignorance as religion.

Here's the Atheist Experience episode, 'Objecting to Objectivism':  http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8584428047418862218#

then why do you hope not?
Comment by Christopher Baughman on January 6, 2011 at 11:54pm
Because of the way you asked the question.  And of course where you asked it.
Comment by Patrick on January 6, 2011 at 11:53pm
why's that?
