Oh and I love arguments :p if i think im right about anything ill dive right into an argument and regardless of wether i get my ass handed to me (has happened) or im just right I love it

Comment by ryan leman on October 29, 2012 at 4:00pm

lol Well the importance in seperating the nihilist's views is that im against Metaphysical and Epistemological nihilism so I don't make it possible for someone to assume that I could be of those two nihilisms by stating which nihilism's I agree with. Because skeptical atheist leaves alot open to how I view the world. It is really a generality so I like to be more specific. like for example there are atheist who believe that there is no real world out there and everything is just perception although I personally believe that view is stupid because if there isn't a real world out there than we wouldn't have anything to percieve. If anything I really should add that I "over analyse" things according to other people which i think they are right although I think of it as im just always thinking and of course im over explainitive as im sure you probably already know.  "I could puzzle out what you're getting at, eventually" oh and another thing I don't tend to "get at" anything, usually what I say is what I mean in it's entirity. The reason I put the description of me there was so if anyone was similar to me or interested than they could message me. But yah I don't think that "skeptical atheist, individualist, hedonist" is specific enough to define how i think and what I currently think on what is our existence.

Anyone in the Southern California area interested in getting a group of us together to celebrate winter solstice on Friday December 21st. Anyone else would be more than welcome to come as well.

Ah.  Hmm.

That seems a weird way to phrase it, though.  It's not immediately obvious what you're trying to say.  I could puzzle out what you're getting at, eventually, but it doesn't help your case.  Girls aren't going to analyze your profile in depth, the way I am.

I'd pare down a bit.  The first half of that could be reduced to Skeptical Atheist.  It all tends to go along with that category.  Pull Individualist out of that block.

That would leave you with "skeptical atheist, individualist, hedonist ..."

...uh, do you really need to differentiate between 3 flavors of nihilism?  I mean there's a difference, sure, but is anyone going to care that you're a Mereological nihilist?  I agree with that position, but no one is going to date you or not, based upon that position.  The other two can be divined from the basic description of nihilism.

Comment by ryan leman on October 29, 2012 at 1:59pm

or maybe put that somewhere else so it doesn't imply that i don't believe in perception and illusion :/ ill figure that out later

Comment by ryan leman on October 29, 2012 at 1:58pm

Oh to that list of views that i had the "Lets see im a Objectivist, Atheist, Individualist, Realist, Naturalist, Reductionist, Hedonist, Moral Nihilist, Mereological Nihilist, Existential Nihilist"

instead of saying Objectivist i might just heed your words and put "Lets see I believe the world is mind independent, Im am a atheist, individualist.............(rest of the list).....

Comment by Joseph P on October 28, 2012 at 2:36pm

and joseph I might just put "I believe the world is mind-independent" since thats what objectivism by definition basically is.

... in reference to ... what exactly?  You just kind of threw that out there without connecting it to what you're responding to.  I have no idea what point you're trying to make with the statement.

Comment by ryan leman on October 28, 2012 at 1:20pm
Ok Michael Pianko it seems that you have a separate view of ayn so because I believe the best way to learn is by hearing everyone out what are your views of ayn's economy view, ayn's philosophical views, and your overall view of ayn's. and joseph I might just put "I believe the world is mind-independent" since thats what objectivism by definition basically is.

Her other work isn't much better.  Her basic argument is a blind assertion, turned into dogma.  Also, it's proven wrong by pretty much any analysis of modern societies.  The anarcho-capitalist response is pretty fucking stupid.

"Well, those aren't pure, unfettered, capitalist systems."

If your economic policy only works in a clean-room and falls apart, into a horrifying mess, with the slightest governmental interference, then it's a fucking stupid policy that won't work in the real world.  The whole concept of this utopian event horizon is idiotic, as well.

gets worse ----> gets worse ----> 3rd-world country ----> Somalia ----> hell on earth ---> Utopia

Anyone who believes that sort of progression is a gullible fool.

And yeah, Michael, you're one of the people I specifically had in mind, about possibly growing out of it, one day.  I don't have very high hopes, though.  If you won't take relationship advice from people who have actually been in relationships, I don't expect you'll listen to people who know more about economics and sociology, either.

So, how much longer, do you think, until Trickle-Down Economics actually starts working?

Comment by TNT666 on October 28, 2012 at 12:06pm

I considered myself an objectivist before reading Atlas Shrugged. I'm a fast avid reader but these days I prefer non fiction over fiction. Atlas Shrugged took me months to read, I annotated it, I vomited in it, I screamed at it. Never have I read a book that so deserved to be burned, not because it's evil, but because it's stupid, and badly written, and it's a frikin shame to have wasted any trees to print that shit. So I'm very careful about using the word objectivist also. There are parts of me which are objectivist, there are parts of me which are communist, there are parts of me which are free market (anti-monopoly) and there are parts of me, the biggest part, which just wants all market activity to simply cease, and all economists to die suddenly of a mythical disease which would strike all professional liars. Ayn Rand is was herself a leach, earning passive income in the form of royalties for spouting nonsense.  Atlas Shrugged was a bunch of lies serving as foundation for a ridiculous society.
