Well that is wrong from a libertarian POV.
It is not an issue with libertarianism, it is an issue with the idiocy that make people not respect the individuality of others.
As to coming off in a negative way, by now I would hope you understand I am far from a negative person, and quite open to many ways. I have my own standards for a mate, but that has little to do with being a good person or not, or libertarianism.
You should be aware of the very type of prejudices you carry around with you that you pillory in others. You just have prejudice for different things.
You had already presumed SO much about me, that you had me pegged as such.
Ron Paul is as close to a libertarian as you can get without starting to argue the very fine points on the periphery of libertarian philosophy.
I don't agree with everything he says, but a good 95% of it.
Unchecked Capitalism is frightening too me, Joseph. I realize that Ron Paul isn't representative, nor is the Tea Party. However, both of those are the faces of their parties, and the parties seem to be falling in line. That Ayn Rand stuff is insane (and yes, I have read Atlas Shrugged, several times).
The thing is, there SHOULD NOT have to be further legislation, but in 29 states, you can still be fired, evicted, and denied public services for being gay. Up that number to 34 for transgender. We can't get married, and many states, all the southern states, in fact, bar same sex couples via state constitutions from marriage and from adopting kids together. I think it's safe to say that the stance libertarians take on the issue is way off.
Yes, we are all who we are. But, when you put yourself out there, and you come off in a negative way, expect people to say so, particularly people who fall into one or more categories of what you seem to be looking for. I think there is some naivete in there on your part, yes.
At this point, I don't care - I am who I am, what can you do?
I am sure there is a lady out there who is a perfect match for me.
And . . libertarians DO NOT take a states rights approach on liberties, including gay rights.
Now I know how badly the US public needs to know WTF libertarianism is about. We in these circles know it so well by heart we have no idea of the common misconceptions that run about in the common American psyche.
There shouldn't have to be any further legislation guaranteeing gay people their rights. The constitution already protects their rights - but since most people don't respect the constitution on its face, then I would say there should be federal legislation affirmatively stating it as such.
And no, I am not a bad guy at all. Of course that depends on what you define as "bad". Some people define all atheists as bad. Maybe you can relate ;-)
I am just a naive, perhaps too enthusiastic person. The kind of enthusiasm that most people lose at 19 year old.
*sigh* I don't think you are a bad guy, I think you perhaps reeeaaalllyyy don't get how you come off. This thread is not gonna do you any favors with the ladies here. I can only speak for myself, and of course the other women in this thread have answered in kind..good luck.
Libertarians take a "states rights" stance on everything, or so it seems. That includes gay rights. In other words, they do not believe that federal legislation should be used to gain discrimination and hate crimes protections and marriage equality for LGBT Americans. Furthermore, your head honcho, Ron Paul, is a flaming bigot.
