Comment by Shannon Equality Barber on June 14, 2012 at 3:42pm Also, libertarians are generally not *for* gay rights. For obvious reasons, I have big problems with that. That is just the tip of the iceberg of the problems I have with libertarianism, but that's neither here nor there. You don't seem to have changed your opinion of there being anything wrong with your little ad downthread, despite what folks here have said. Listen or don't listen, I don't care. It's your loss, not mine.
Comment by Shannon Equality Barber on June 14, 2012 at 3:40pm No, no, no, Gary. I was not saying that libertarians don't care what gay people think. I was talking about my being a gay woman and your being a straight man, you probably, in the realm of dating, don't give a damn what I have to say. I did answer on point, and I think you are looking for an argument. Not biting your bait, though. Do what you will with what I said. you come off shallow, arrogant, and in search of something unrealistic.

Comment by Gary Trieste on June 14, 2012 at 3:31pm Shannon:
My curiousity is peaked again on this libertarian thing.
Earlier you said something that implied that because I was a libertarian that I wouldn't care about what a gay person opined.
I asked you, and you said it wasn't so much libertarian as much as it was a gay thing that I wouldn't respect. But I still see an undercurrent here.
So I ask you again, why would you think that I don't respect the opinion of a gay woman because of my libertarianism??
Please answer on point, not looking for an argument, again just trying to understand.
Comment by Shannon Equality Barber on June 14, 2012 at 3:23pm Thanks, Brian. I can't speak for anyone else, but if I posted something here and there were a bunch of negatives, particularly from people for the segment of the population I am looking for dates with, it would make me re evaluate my approach, and perhaps even some of the things I value. I hope we helped Gary in some way.
Joseph, can't speak to that, but I can say this: women DO look for reasons to write someone off. Take me for instance: if she is a theist, has kids, is a closet case, or is a right winger or libertarian, no deal. Off the bat. Then again, I'd rather be single than be with someone with any of those characteristics, though.

Comment by brian on June 14, 2012 at 3:08pm The Reason I said something about beating the guy up was that the comments were all negative. there we no constructive comments. that is why I said what I said.
Kudos to shannon and and anyone else that may have given some constructive critism.
Comment by Shannon Equality Barber on June 14, 2012 at 3:02pm In short, nobody wants to get old and lose our looks. However, it happens. Furthermore, this society holds women to an almost impossible standard with regards to youth and beauty. It is a huge red flag when someone lists that in initial preferences. I do hope you find what you are looking for, but I really think that perhaps the other things need to come before age and looks. Otherwise, the only women who will even consider dating you are shallow bimbos who are after your money and couldn't give two shits about your child.
Comment by Shannon Equality Barber on June 14, 2012 at 3:00pm I am glad you realize we weren't being mean. I also have a kind of off color sense of humor, and that comment was slightly snarky.
Not necessarily libertarianism, but just dating preferences in general, since I am not looking for men. It has been my experience that most straight men give not a hoot about what gay women think about dating.
All in all, what the age thing says is this: you're attracted to youth and beauty. The first thing in my mind would be- eventually, I'll be 45, just like him. Will he leave me for some pretty young thing once I put on a few pounds and grow a few gray hairs? Is that all he is looking for? He won't even date someone with good qualities his own age. The rest of what you says kind of becomes null and void with that.
