In my convention talk, this statement got by far the strongest response.
"Homophobia, for many people, is rooted in guilt and anxiety about their own MASTURBATORY behavior and in the shame they feel about their own bodies." (from Sex and God, p. 204) It is among the strongest challenges to religionists. Try using it on someone and see how they respond. Even if they vehemently disagree, there is no doubt that they will think about it the next time they masturbate. It is the most intimate thing you can do with yourself, the one thing religionists are most afraid of and cannot openly deal with. As a result, they externalize it by demonizing those who aren't ashamed of their sexuality. Have great sex with yourself.

Please allow me to rant and vent here a little bit:

I'm sure everyone knows what tomorrow is, right? Single Awareness Day.

I know, I know, everyone thinks it's Valentine's Day. But for those who don't have anyone in their life (or has NEVER had anyone in their life, such as yours truly), it's one of the most painful days of the year.

Hallmark holiday and all that, yeah, but when you see all the feature stories in the news, couples having a great time and even bachlorette parties on the Landing the Loop or Soulard, it makes me feel totally inadequate, rejected and alone, especially here in St. Louis. It totally sucks being alone.

OK, rant over. Thank you for letting me vent.
