I'm single and have been browsing on OKCupid for a while, but the response rate is too low, and then there's the business of transcending the friendship barrier.

Umm, shouldn't this be a general qualifier, whether you have a daughter or not? :-D I'd think that even women who don't have children would want to steer the hell away.

Permalink Reply by Aviance on October 15, 2011 at 9:24pm I haven't properly introduced myself, but I guess I should. I'm 30, been single for over 3 years now, pretty much my fault though. Anyways, since that time I matured a lot since my last relationship. I'm working on my degree in computer science and I'm currently living in hot, humid, Miami. After I graduate, I plan to move back to cooler climates, where I can wear my sweaters once again, because I miss them so. I enjoy nothing more than listening to music. I rarely watch TV, but I keep up with current events via Google and Yahoo. I'm a great cook, love long walks (while jamming to my ipod), and I enjoy watching movies....lots of movies...but I'd rather be out, doing something fun with a few friends. I don't smoke and I rarely drink. I also enjoy drawing and tinkering with electronics. If it's broken, I can pretty much fix it. :D
Enough of my long-winded tirade. I don't want to bore you guys to tears.

Permalink Reply by Chizu_Sando on December 4, 2011 at 8:52pm Hi everyone!
I guess, like most people in this forum, that I joined in the hopes of finding someone romantically compatible. Even if it just turns out to be a good friendship. I'm 28/W/F. I'm pretty introverted and still closeted to my family. I'm an atheist (obviously) and bi (so it doesn't matter as much to me what a person's gender is). I have a BS in marine biology and am going to school for a AAS to be a registered vet. tech. I love herps. I currently own three little snakes, but when I get a bigger place wish to expand. I love to read/watch philosophy and horror then have long-winded conversations about it. I don't smoke or drink. Can't think of anything you might find pertinent.
I guess lets all get to know each other and make friends. :)

I'm a 33 year old guy from England. Grew up as a Jehovah's Witness and drifted away, came across the whole atheism thing on YouTube a few years ago and immediately identified with it. My family are still JWs and I live with my parents right now, but things are actually okay; religion is barely mentioned.
Um... I don't drink or smoke, and have no kids. I'm kinda socially awkward, can't stand football or sports in general. I prefer scifi movies, psychological thrillers and clever concept 'twist' movies to mindless action. I have a list of books I want to read. I tend to have ideas for games, books etc but can't seem to put them down on paper properly...
I have a black lab named Sam, who's still young and mischievous and likes to terrorise my parents' four yorkies. :)
I'm on Facebook and a few other sites. If you want to know more, just ask! :)
Permalink Reply by James Funston on December 30, 2011 at 7:17pm Hi, I'm 31 and living in Portland, Oregon. I grew up in California and moved here a few years back. I returned to college this year; I am working on a degree in science or writing (not sure yet). I am a skeptic and atheist. My family is nominally Christian, but religion wasn't forced on me as a child. I drink socially, quit smoking recently, partake in weed, and hate most other drugs. I'm a huge sci-fi, comics, and fantasy nerd and a bibliophile. My 2 rats are named Tesla and Edison.

Permalink Reply by Daniel McHugh on January 13, 2012 at 9:22pm I'm 26, live in NJ, and am utterly tired of single life. I've been an atheist for about half my life and the more I learn, the more I realize I could never really connect with someone who still defers to nonexistent beings for guidance. Meeting someone online has become my best hope because I am shockingly inarticulate in speech; the written word is the only form of communication I can fully express myself with, except among close friends. I have great difficulty meeting new people even though I don't take long to warm up to them once the introduction has been made. I'm looking for a woman of similar age, preferably living somewhere in FL as I'm planning to move down there within the year.
Permalink Reply by Tommy Adams on February 3, 2012 at 10:18pm Tommy here. Just joined. I live in a small Texas Town on the coast and it SUX! No way of meeting other atheists here, especially females. Why can't my job be in Austin?

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day. however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more. in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.
I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).
THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.
I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…
