While colonizing space (moon, Mars, etc.) what sort of government will be created(decided upon) by the people who will do the colonization?

Started by AtheistTech. Last reply by Madhukar Kulkarni Jan 7, 2012. 12 Replies

My guess is that primarily scientists will be the ones colonizing the Moon and Mars. If I am right, then I would venture to say that they will create a government that will be more desirable to the…Continue

Rockets are working just fine for the Russians.

I think this should be relevant to your interests. I get the feeling that someone's probably posted it before, but if so, here it is again. 500-fps video of Apollo 11 launch.

Oh no!! That video is so depressing. It almost looks like the payload weighed so much the balloon had no chance to get it off the ground... but like the article says, even well-planned balloon launches go awry unexpectedly. I feel terrible for the grad students whose dissertation hopes lay on the data collected by that balloon.

Cian I agree with your concerns about NASA, unfortunately I think it will take ALOT of private interest to get the programme where it needs to be. I LOVE the Russian program for it's gutsiness!! And I would fly with them in a heartbeat! I dont think they have enough funding either.
I felt a little better after the Presidents speech the other day. But the proof will be on the doing. He seems to think (as I do) that MARS DIRECT is the way to go. Plenty at NASA dont think so I disagree..They have become entrenched in their institutional thinking possibly. Obviously Im guessing here as I dont work for NASA. But the original Orion programme I was not crazy about!
I soo wish Europe would get more involved, and the Japanese!

@SGecko the US may not be doing the whole rocket thing anymore but that dosnt mean your giving up on space. its just going to be a more international thing now. russia still has a program, theres ESA (i wish we europeans did more), china and others. i suppose what i worry about is it becomming a completly private venture because then the general idealism of organisations like nasa may be lost.

There is a special on Europa tonight. Nat Geo 10pm if anyone is interested.
