Missouri lawyer is asking local governments to "prominently" display "In God We Trust"

Up until this week my atheism hasn't had any effect on my service to the city and hasn't come up in any city council meetings.

A lawyer from Springfield, Missouri is sending out letters (attached) to city and county governments across the state asking the government bodies to put up a prominent display of “In God We Trust” on or in government buildings. The lawyer is named Dee Wampler and he has written some books including "One Nation Under God: A Trial Lawyer Exposes the Myth of the Separation Between Church & State" and "The Trial of Christ: A Twenty-First Century Lawyer Defends Jesus." Here's his profile on his law office's web page: http://www.entrapped.com/profile_deewampler.html

Several cities and counties have already (unanimously) approved this:http://www.joplinglobe.com/local/x1623045398/-In-God-We-Trust-to-be...

Our mayor intends to bring this up at our next city Council meeting on April 11. I have notified the mayor and city attorney that I intend to vote against this. I also contacted the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Even if they can't do anything about it, I want people to be aware of what is happening. I'm not sure how I should handle this. On the one hand, religion is largely irrelevant in city government and vocally opposing this could stir up trouble for me. It's symbolic and won't really hurt anything. I could just quietly vote against it and not draw attention to it. On the other hand, this is an opportunity for me to have both my vote and a public statement in favor of church/state separation entered into the permanent public record of my city. Depending on how prominent the display is, it could be an annoyance and discouragement that I face at every meeting. I suspect the mayor will have enough votes to pass this regardless of how vocal I am.

I'm uploading the letter from Wampler.

You might introduce the suggestion that everywhere "In God We Trust" is displayed, a similar message be additionally deployed: "al-Lah akbar!"  Surely there are some Muslims in your town who would appreciate attention by the Council members.

I remember an assertion by a famous military officer who said (in essence), "If you lose the will to fight, some sonuvabitch who has the will to fight will take you over." [His words, quoted.]

If you don't object, who will?

The IGWT measure passed 3-1 after about 15 minutes of lively but civil discussion. I read a prepared statement into the minutes. I attached a transcript below.
