Your sound set up?

We use Audacity for sound recording and editing. I've been playing around with some different ways of cleaning up the audio and we're working on getting some better equipment. Everything right now is coming into my PC mixed together, and a multi-track set-up is definitley a high priority. This should also help with the guest/skype issues as I'll be able to target the guest track for additional cleanup.

The degraded quality is something I'm working on but this is usually a skype or phone issue.

As to the boom-mic stands, it's something we're looking into, I'm also reviewing options for a new less "thumpy" table. We don't have a huge amount of space in the room we record in and I have a three year old girl that likes to knock things over...

Thanks Marc, much appreciated, I'm looing at some USB options right now, ones that Audacity singles out explicitly as supporting for multi track recording, they tend to run in thr $3-500 range, so that's comparable, the problem is they only have 1/4" inputs, so I'd need an xlr = Phantom power provider (the one I'm looking at right now is about $80).

We're also looking at building a dedicated recording machine, we're still up in the air on Operating system (windows or linux at this point, mac's are a bit pricey for what we want to do), and Lamar told me about a fairly advanced piece of freeware (the name is escaping me now, I have it at home on a linux laptop) that's only available for Mac and Linux.

Those are nice, we were also considering getting shock-mounts for our mics. there are a lot of directions to go in this field, it's about time and money right now (both of which are in short supply right now).
