For the most part we photographers see the world as it truly is through the lens of a camera which is what we also strive to do as atheists and skeptics. Photographers of all skill levels welcome.

Comment by Richard Healy on August 15, 2011 at 5:17pm DPS is where I started! I do post on there - you can find these same images in SYS - "Other" > "Thaumaturgy"
It is a shame that this place is a little under-served. Well we are here, let's do something about it!! :P
Fireworks were hit and miss. Good try out for the technique though.
Next time I must try to be better positioned. I tried to talking to the engineers setting them up but they were unhelpfully vague about where they were supposed to be firing from or to!
I wasn't very well last time there were any fireworks scheduled so I'm planning on doing better this year. Also it's going to by the carnival season soon which means the fair will be in town. Lots of coloured lights - can't wait!
That is amazing fortunate - and I'm still jealous! :P
Comment by Marx on August 15, 2011 at 5:10pm I am very fortunate to have ten acres in a rural area, but I am still fairly close to the coast. We get a lot of birds here (we have two ponds) in addition to a lot of other wildlife. It's a great place for nature photography.
I visited your flickr site and you've got some great images there. The fireworks photos are wonderful. I haven't tried that yet, but I got a pretty good lightening capture recently.
I do not have a true macro lens, but I was amazed at some of the results that I got just adding some cheap extenders to my existing lenses. It turned out to be a great solution until I can afford to buy more lenses.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of activity in this group. Have you been to Digital Photography School? They have a very active forum and I have posted a lot of photos there. Check it out if you haven't been there before.

I ended up using erasers to boost the card up to get them into a better line of sight plus it made them more manoeuvrable - too often the maglite would collide with the cards and spin them around, knock them over. etc. So ease of repositioning evolved out of necessity and the erasers were just about the right height!
Yes, I realised not long after I asked - I thought though you'd meant somewhere else on the internet! Still nice to know we have more than one thing in common.
That is an awesome photo! - Wow!
Anything I take I like goes here:

Comment by Marx on August 15, 2011 at 7:35am That's terrific. Very creative. I was aware of the maglite technique, but was not sure how you got the cards to stand on corner. We know each other from the GayAtheists group on this forum. Most of my photography is nature-related. Below is a recent capture of a Great Blue Heron.
