For the most part we photographers see the world as it truly is through the lens of a camera which is what we also strive to do as atheists and skeptics. Photographers of all skill levels welcome.

Marx I love that flower photo! Awesome. I have some I took myself. I just have to download them from my camera.
Richard I love your photography that you posted here.
Any wildlife photographers in the group?

Comment by Marx on March 17, 2012 at 9:43am No filters. Shot with my Canon EF 70-200mm F/4L IS USM lens. The head you linked to looks pretty good, although I have not done much research on heads, as most of my photography is done hand-held, so I have not invested in a quality head.
Comment by Richard Healy on March 17, 2012 at 7:03am Thanks - and yup. I drive into work every day with this dorkish grin "I can't believe I *work* here!) such moments of joy are tempered by moments reality like yesterday having my hand stuck down the sump pipe of a malfunction ice machine that had flooded the media kitchen. C'est la vie. At least I'm being paid for it!
My current tripod (£14 from Tesco) has a fixed head, a quick release and a spirit level - all things considered it is pretty good - but I can;t upgrade it for the types of photos I want to take so this is a necessity any way of looking at it.
This is the head I was thinking of as an interim before I start saving for the panormaic head.

Lovely capture! Did you use any filters for that?
Comment by Marx on March 17, 2012 at 6:49am Hi Richard, I like the photos - the cathedral is magnificent. Glad to hear that you found employment. I'm sure that must be a great feeling.
I have a Manfrotto monopod, which works well for me. I also use a Manfrotto Quick Release on my tripod and monopod - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/554141-REG/Manfrotto_323_323_.... It makes it a snap to mount and unmount the camera. I was at Selby Gardens in Sarasota yesterday and got this capture:
By the way, has anyone here started using Lightroom 4, which was recently released? I am currently using LR-3 and am curious about any feedback on LR-4. Thanks.
Comment by Richard Healy on March 17, 2012 at 5:22am Oh yeah, I maybe forgot to mention - I got a job! (at last!) working in a genetic engineering and biopharmaceutical research laboratory on a gorgeous campus in Cambridge!* So my lament over the other page about being unable to afford camera equipment is now less of issue, and things now become affordable - not like I can just go and buy any lens I want, but I can at last think about saving up or making regular down payments on one.
So new tripod acquired next on my list is new head (it came with just the bolt) ultimately I'm going to save up for a new panoramic head (which will pivot around the focal point of the lens rather than the centre of mass of the camera body) and that fish-eye lens.
Some new software to play with - and then y'all can start looking forward to seeing some stereographic projections outta me, like this:
