Yeah, there's something quite wild about us Pittsburgh fans. Even being one of them, I still don't know what it is. But no matter how bad the teams are doing, I still love and support them.

That said, the players should take heed not to cross Pittsburgh fans by disparaging the city and/or the fans. We're not as bad as Philly fans, but we still don't take kindly to the likes of Dave Parker (along with the other coke-head Pirates) and Plaxico Burress.

oh it's definately different if you're from the city. i spent half my life up north, so i've been gettin ripped on for bein a Falcons fan for half my life. Lol! though, when i was younger and still lived in Atlanta folks in atlanta ripped on me for likin the falcons too, so some things never change i guess. Lol! and also, since i did live in pittsburgh for 6yrs i can tell you pittsburgh sports is their RELIGION in pittsburgh. i had girlfriends there that knew the names of steelers on the practice squad but couldn't tell you the names of all the teams in the AFC North. seriously! Lol! they eat, sleep, and drink it out there...

It's only a couple hours from Carlisle to DC. The Redskins trained at Dickinson College for quite a long time, over 30 years, and developed a large following in the area which they have lost since moving their training camp elsewhere. There were always lots of people watching the training, and the players were very generous when it came to talking to the fans and giving autographs and posing for pictures, especially with the children. We have an entire photo album dedicated to autographs and pictures of James with Redskins players.

One year the Redskins and Steelers scrimmaged at the Carlisle HS field. The place was jam-packed and the crowd was probably 60-40 Steelers fans to Redskins fans. This area is predominately Steelers territory, although there are a lot of Iggles fans and still some 'Skins fans.

Pinko, I never knew that the Redskins had their training camp in Carlisle. That's odd, it's so far from their stadium... I remember going to Latrobe, PA as a kid to watch the Steelers training camp at St. Vincent's College just off route 30. Hardly anybody was there back then. I went this year for the first time in over 15 years and it was a mad-house! There was probably more people there that day (Saturday, August 8) than you could even fit into Heinz Field.

Aiden, I used to live in Petersburg. I didn't care much for the Redskins back then, but when we moved to Carlisle, PA, where the Redskins had their training camp, I grew to like the 'Skins. My husband used to take our son James to training camp almost every day, starting when he was 4, so James loves the 'Skins, but his #1 team is the Steelers. He's 25 now and lives in the 'Burgh. I grew up 70 miles south of Pittsburgh, so I'm a life-long Steelers and Pirates, and I've been a Penguins fan since they first hit the ice. But the Bills will always be my #1, win or (mostly) lose. :-)

It's quite a bit different when you're from the same city/region as the team, but living in a different region. I have quite a few friends that are Red Sox fans, but most of them are actually from Boston or went to college there, so they like the Patriots too.

I used to get a lot of shit for liking the Steelers (and the Pirates, and the Penguins) since I live in southeast VA, but I'm from Pittsburgh and still visit family there quite often, so those are my home teams. I'd catch hell from the locals here (mostly Redskins or Cowboys fans) whether the Pittsburgh teams sucked or were winning...

You know, I didn't know the Cardinals actually had fans until last season. It's amazing how the fans come out of the woodwork when a team starts to win.
