Like Pinko, I'm definitely in hockey mode until the Pens win it or get knocked out. Then it's on to watching the Pirates work on their 20th consecutive losing season until football season hits.

....well no question, I'm not a optimist...I harbor no pretentions about violence and the folks who engage in that arena...as my fatherr used to tell me..."just keep walking on the planet....you'll see what I mean"...take care...

Guess I'm optimistic that people are basically good and when you know better, you try to do better.  People who are making millions of dollars may be swayed to do better with the threat that they can lose their jobs, lose a lot of money or face criminal charges.  Those who aren't swayed can face the consequences.

....well I wasn't surprised....and furthur I believe it happens more than we hear...we will NOT stop this in the nfl no more than we can stop drugs/murder/misogny...and other examples of dysfunction...the saints got caught....folks will "hide" their activity for awhile...but eliminate it...you are urinating in the wind...

No, Chera, you aren't the only female here, but right now I'm in hockey mode. Stanley Cup playoffs are just around the corner. I won't even think about football until after The Cup is hoisted in June, hopefully by Sid and company. Let's go, Pens!

Of course you can.  When the Army Sergeant recently killed 16 civillians (including 9 children) in their homes we (at least I) were surprised and saddend.  There are limits and just because some amount of violence is permitted doesn't mean it's permissible to financially induce players to "take out" another player and tell him you'll pay him more if the guy is carted off the field.  It's, in the least, negligent.  While I may be godless I'm not without morals and this behavior deserves the punishment dealt.  If other teams are doing it, maybe this will sway them to stop.

No, I don't think we should be surprised that some take it too far, however it doesn't mean that we except it and do nothing about it either. There have always been bounties in some form or another but that doesn't make them right. I think it's great that someone is finally standing up and saying this isn't okay.

...well, a cursory understanding of the game throughout the years... (I've followed football since the 60's) reveals that this conduct has always existed...it's endemic in the game, just as atrocities are endemic in war....you cannot provide an environment where a certain amount of violence is permitted....than be surprised when some take it to far....(note human history)...

Yes, there are players who hit to hurt and take pride in it.  No proof that players on other teams are told who to take out with a dollar amount attached to it.  If they are, it's wrong and those coaches aren't stupid enough to tape themselves doing it!

....hey nothing "new" about bountys....just the tip of the iceberg...this is as old as the game itself...the money paid to the "predator" has just increased...that's it...
