Atheist News Podcast Project

Hey guys.

I probably shouldn't put this off anymore, so I'm just going to jump on it and improvise. I'm pretty sure the show is over. It was a ton of fun doing it, but with work and my son and my wife in school I simply don't have time to do it anymore.

Other folks have offered to take over but I don't really feel comfortable with that. Quit while you're ahead, sez I.

Anyhow, I payed for another year of hosting, so the archive of podcasts will be available for at least that long.

I really enjoyed podcasting, so I might do something again in the future. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks guys and gals! It was AMAZING.

Love,

--Joe

Amy, I agree with Rob. would love to know. I personally want to commend you. You seem to be an exceptional person. It is very hard to break the chains at our age. I am not sure I could have done it myself. It took me a period of 10 years to fully clear the cobwebs. I don't think anyone understands how powerful this kind of indoctrination really is or as far as that goes, how dangerous it is to our future.
Comment by Rob N on May 17, 2010 at 9:20am
@Amy, I'm curious what it was that started off your doubts? What things you had to 'see for yourself'?

How would you recommend we approach a fully indoctrinated christian, in order to get them thinking the way you started to think; without arguing?
Comment by Amy on May 17, 2010 at 9:07am
please don't give up on the older 'brainwashed' christian! i was 48 before the veil was lifted from my own eyes. however, arguing would NOT have been an effective approach with me. i had to see things for myself...and i needed safe, non-judgmental people to process my thoughts with.

arguing usually does more harm than good, imo. it incites emotions, and invites misunderstanding. also...it's futile with a population who has rejected reasoning as part of their thought process.

You can not win an argument with a fully brain washed religious fanatic. i was raised by just such people but luckily for me I have always been a person to think things through and come to my own opinion. I have raised two children explaining my point of view while giving them free rein to make their own decision. Both are atheist. both have talked to other kids who given a chance broke from their brain washing and now are atheist. This is the only way to win this battle is breaking the brain washing cycle while their young. Once they get older it is pretty much useless.

@Meag. Thanx for the clarification. I am puzzled by the "story" status. It's been propagated on a number of blogs without much in the way of clarification vis the law (as of a couple of days ago).
@TNT, @Joan. Thanx also for the clarification. I agree with what you say as one tactic. It is a good tactic. A campaign's strategy is best served by multiple tactics, however, and one of the most important tactics is to confront the enemy on their own ground. I think to ignore religious provocations (posted on facebook, say) is equally to allow them to set an agenda.
I think we have an agenda; the advancement of science and reason.
I'm all for atheists getting together for coffee and chit-chat, demonstrations and counter-demonstrations, but I'm leery of becoming too organized. Successful organization begets Power. Power corrupts.
Religion and superstition are in a natural course of decline, have been since the Enlightenment and even prior to that. We are winning. I guess the question becomes; do we settle for the current pace or do we ramp up the pressure. Of course, the harder we push, the harder they'll push back.

TNT666, I like your image of the sandbox. If the "religious set the language and the game" it is like living in a sandbox used by the neighborhood cats to deposit their waste. It stinks, holds bacteria that makes one sick, and does not support the beauty, abundance, and wealth of resources surrounding us.

Plants need such composted refuse to thrive, so turn the sewage into a resource and create our own vision.
Comment by TNT666 on May 16, 2010 at 9:00pm
@Pat I believe such issues are a matter of shifting paradigms. If you let the religious set the language and the game, you lose.

We have to change the paradigms, determine our own agendas, not play in their own petty little sandbox. This is the dems have such a hard time getting anthing done is the USA. Dems let GOPs set the paradigms. This is what needs changing.
Comment by Joe Tomberlin on May 16, 2010 at 1:31pm
"No they can't. They don't have the jurisdiction to do that at all."
But yet we have prayer at tons of city counsels, 10 commandments in courthouses, 'so help me god' in oaths, prayers at football games, Office of Faith Based Iniative, prostheletizing army chaplins etc. The list goes on and on, not mention the science & education problems.
That's why we still talk about it, and must talk about it. Not only is reality not an issue for them, the laws often mean just as little
Comment by Фелч Гроган on May 16, 2010 at 10:00am
@Meag - they're talking about this for the same reasons that some people still deny the holocaust or claim there's a vaccine / autism connection. They believe. Reality is simply not relevant.
Comment by Pat Burke on May 16, 2010 at 8:17am
@tnt666. I believe we should support these kinds of initiatives, whether or not we might quibble with some of the minutiae. Facebook can be influential. Hey, they got Betty White hosting SNL.
