Atheist News Podcast Project

Hey guys.

I probably shouldn't put this off anymore, so I'm just going to jump on it and improvise. I'm pretty sure the show is over. It was a ton of fun doing it, but with work and my son and my wife in school I simply don't have time to do it anymore.

Other folks have offered to take over but I don't really feel comfortable with that. Quit while you're ahead, sez I.

Anyhow, I payed for another year of hosting, so the archive of podcasts will be available for at least that long.

I really enjoyed podcasting, so I might do something again in the future. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks guys and gals! It was AMAZING.

As to the kinds of abuse that happen in other countries against women and children, public outcry helps. It is such a small thing to speak out against such culturally tolerated values, but speak out one must. If the victim's culture does not protect her, who will? Who can?

I am quick to add that boys and men suffer such assaults and need confrontation as well.
Comment by Joan Denoo on March 31, 2011 at 9:10pm
Abuses of children and women by misplaced notions of masculinity go on all around us and hide behind a conspiracy of silence, even in this country. Such assaults, tho far less common today, exist. They need to be recognized when they happen, and law enforcement trained in how to intervene. Even some judges need training ... the good news is more support systems exist than in my mother's day. They have to be funded by the community because of the complex issues of women trying to pay for their own safety. Abuse, regardless of who perpetrates it and who is the victim needs social services. I hope voters understand that when they cast their ballots. Unseen family assault is a community affair and very much needs community financial support

Well, it's good that the government is doing something about it, when this sort of thing is going on.  Shame the governments in the middle-east are engaging in the same sort of behavior as the doctor.

Effin troglodytes!

Muslim Girl, 14, Lashed to Death for Adultery

Despite her mother proclaiming her innocence, Bangladeshi 14-year-old Hena Akhter was convicted of adultery, and, according to Sharia Law, sentenced to 101 lashes. She dropped after 70, and was taken to a hospital, where she died one week later. Initially, an autopsy report deemed her death a suicide, but a further investigation has uncovered some chilling details. Growing up in a shared hut in rural Shariatpur, Hena was repeatedly harassed by her 42-year-old cousin, Mahbub Khan. One night, according to Hena’s sister, Khan beat and raped her, and when his wife intervened, she dragged the teenage girl back to their hut and trampled her on the floor. The next day, the imam ordered a fatwa, sentencing the couple to an illicit relationship. Khan only ended up receiving a few lashes, unlike Hena. After Hena’s severely beaten body was exhumed and doctors confirmed she died of internal bleeding, authorities launched an investigation, charging the doctors on Monday for Hena’s “false post-mortem report,” and then arresting several people, including Khan, in connection with Hena’s death.

I was amazed to learn that she made that speech, as far back as 1965. She must be such an exceptionally brave woman, bold and downright blunt to have uttered those 'bitter truth' words to her audience, 46 years ago. I respect her guts.

I think the word you intended was 'mystique'.
Comment by Christopher Baughman on March 27, 2011 at 5:03am
I haven't seen many videos or heard all that much audio of her. What little I've heard came from documentaries about her kidnapping and death. Other then that I don't particularly know all that much about her. Thus as I said how hard would it be to make any of us seem negative from careful compiling of our life's work in regards to atheism.

"Shrill and annoying"

Wow, how different our perceptions are!!! When I listen to her I find her voice low enough that she sounds male! I don't find her annoying either... hmm, human perceptions... so unreliable!

Comment by Christopher Baughman on March 27, 2011 at 4:48am
What vids I saw of her have done an excellent job of making her seem shrill and annoying. But then again how hard would it be to compile footage like that of ourselves if we became prominent spokespeople for atheism?
