Atheist News Podcast Project

Hey guys.

I probably shouldn't put this off anymore, so I'm just going to jump on it and improvise. I'm pretty sure the show is over. It was a ton of fun doing it, but with work and my son and my wife in school I simply don't have time to do it anymore.

Other folks have offered to take over but I don't really feel comfortable with that. Quit while you're ahead, sez I.

Anyhow, I payed for another year of hosting, so the archive of podcasts will be available for at least that long.

I really enjoyed podcasting, so I might do something again in the future. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks guys and gals! It was AMAZING.

Love,

--Joe

At least in the first 5 years the focus of Facebook was on interrelations among friends. Now the focus has entirely changed, Facebook is more focused on our relationship to commerce/businesses and the rest of the web, and the friendship aspect is being reduced to a mere "cross-business" networking and marketing tool.

That's why for me if Facebook was not entirely BS before, it has become so.''

And tho I use my real name on Facebook, I no longer place anything personal in public view. I value my private life, which may be a dying sentiment among modern populace...

As we're all kind of picking on NoSacredCow here, I'll throw a bone and say that the constant farmville/frontierville/like this/like that/copy-and-paste-this-or-else-you're-a-complete-shithead gets really annoying. For all the little games and quizzes you can 'hide' them so you don't get any more of them on your page. But there are like a zillion to be hidden.

Also, I see some of these folks with 1,000 or 2,000 or more 'friends.' In many cases, people are friending everyone who requests, everyone they've ever played mafia wars with, etc. I don't know how they keep up. I'm a bit more picky whom I "friend.""

Yes, Susan, I am Joan Denoo on Facebook; no attempts to hide who I am or what my interests are.

Joan you have a Facebook?
Comment by Joan Denoo on September 13, 2010 at 7:25pm
@ NoSacredCow, you wrote, "Facebook is bullshit where everyone gives a big "look at me aren't I just grand. Isn't what I'm doing right now just well er, um interesting".

Let me think a moment, it seems to me there is a button labelled "Delete" or "Hide" or something to that effect when someone sends one of those terrible games or personality profile tests or ... or whatever. I just don't have time or interest in such things.

You wrote, "I prefer to spend my time discussing ideas, politics and humor with likeminded individuals ..."

Oh yes! I know the type, read, discuss or contemplate ideas that mirror your own. Does it not seem possible that someone who holds ideas different than your narrow range could offer enlightenment? I looked on your site and frankly, I could see nothing interesting or enlightening. In fact, I experienced it as sophomoric.

You wrote, "rather than dealing with the 28%ers out there incessantly regurgitating pre-prepared talking points with no chance for true dialogue ..."

Does it not occur to you that some come to the ideas of atheism, anti-theism, secular humanism, or whatever, never having been exposed to it before and have to begin at the beginning. Some have to start slowly, cautiously, timidly, but they start ... until they run into an arrogant, opinionated, blaming, criticizing, delusional, proud, narrow-minded, intolerant, contemptuous, showoff, megalomaniacal, inflexible, individual who expects others to be as he/she is.

Could I be writing about you? NNNOOO

"I Facebook *and* I Nexus."

Same here. We're posting NINJAAAAAAS!
Comment by Jo Jerome on September 13, 2010 at 1:13pm
I Facebook *and* I Nexus.

Plus, I don't know about you NoSacredCow, but on Facebook I choose my own 'friends.' E.g.; much of my Facebook friends list is made up of fellow Atheists. I know people who maintain two or more different profiles; one for Theist friends and family, one for non.

The few friends I do have that are Theists, or friends of theirs I end up conversing with via their posts ... I try and keep it polite but firm. Have gotten into some decent discussions with Theists. Not sure if any minds have been changed, but a lot of loud mouths have gone silent in the apparent face of my relentless and pesky 'facts.'

I guess I do as well.

Comment by moJoe on September 12, 2010 at 12:19pm
umm regarding the recent email. MoJoe I don't Facebook I Nexus.

Facebook is for theists...

I couldn't disagree more. Holing up over here and pretending the rest of the world doesn't exist will simply serve to further remove us from the whole. Competing for awareness in the public sphere helps us spread our message of rationality. The Nexus is an oasis and a place to come together with like-minded folk; Facebook, Reddit, Digg, et al: that is where the battle to change public perception is being fought.
