Atheist News Podcast Project

Hey guys.

I probably shouldn't put this off anymore, so I'm just going to jump on it and improvise. I'm pretty sure the show is over. It was a ton of fun doing it, but with work and my son and my wife in school I simply don't have time to do it anymore.

Other folks have offered to take over but I don't really feel comfortable with that. Quit while you're ahead, sez I.

Anyhow, I payed for another year of hosting, so the archive of podcasts will be available for at least that long.

I really enjoyed podcasting, so I might do something again in the future. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks guys and gals! It was AMAZING.

Love,

--Joe

With bears as cancer sniffers it might be a little like witches and water. The people who don't get eaten need treatment.

@Dallas

Absolutely on the dogs that sense epilepsy. In another forum post that you're posting on as well, I noted my wife has epilepsy. My beagles are very sensitive to any changes she undergoes.

There is also an organization in Florida that has trained two dogs to sniff out skin cancer, and they're more accurate than the actual medical tests. The only problem is the dogs can't tell us what it is they're picking up. When I tore my ACL, our knee-growling beagle was taking puppy classes, and I had to take vicodin. When the vicodin kicked in, he'd just stare at me and stop listening. Our puppy class teacher saw this, and then told me about the cancer-sniffing dogs.

They take a mind-bending amount of info in through their noses, and the more they smell, the smarter they get. I've read before that a black lab can sniff out a drop of gasoline in a swimming pool, and labs are often used in arson investigations. But labs have nothing on beagles and bloodhounds, and I guess the next step up from them, in sniffability powers, are bears.

I wonder if you could train a bear to sniff out skin cancer and not eat the patient.

Church (Mosque) + State = Election Fraud

Iran's Interior Ministry leaked the following information today:

Mr. Mousavi (first reformist candidate) won 48% of the popular vote
Mr. Karroubi (second reformist candidate) won 28% of the votes
Incumbent President Ahmadinejad won 13% of the votes

These results are consistent with and support the large-scale public rioting and protesting that has erupted in Iran as a result of the Iranian government’s announcement of Ahmadinejad as winner of the 2009 election.

The mainstream media is not reporting this-this is only circulating on unofficial channels.

Source: A friend on A|N who lives in Iran now, info current as of this morning. He is an Iranian national.

This morning, he wrote,

Hi,
It's a fraud. Most of Iran did not take part in the last election (because elections here are not free and fair, you can only select within a few who are approved by the Guardian Council which is a establishment under the leader), the turnout was around 48% and Ahmadinejad managed to win with a small margin.

This time, the turnout was huge, more than 85% of people voted. The idea was: even though it is not a free election, but anybody is better than Ahmadinejad. People used to say: Having a donkey as president is better than having this monkey. But suddenly, they announce him as the winner with 85% of the votes. The election here is managed by the Ministry of Interior (meaning Ahmadinejad's government) and is supervised by the same Guardian Council whose members are appointed by the leader (who strongly supports Ahmadinejad).

This morning more than a 100 (yes, it is true: >100) journalists and people close to reformist candidates have been arrested. ALL reformist newspapers are closed. Both reformist candidates are under house arrest, all their websites are filtered, the government has shut down the SMS service and the mobile network was also down til just a couple of hours ago. This is a coup d'etat, This a***ole is not our president, we have not voted for him.

Just a couple of minutes ago some of the employees of the ministry managed to somehow leak the original results of the election out, and according to that Mr. Mousavi (the 1st reformist candidate) won 48% of the vote and Mr. Karroubi ( second reformist candidate) won 28% of the votes. Ahmadinejad had just won 13% of the total votes. Ahmadinejad is not our president, please pass this message to others you may find interested.

Take care,

[name redacted]

Truth needs to come out-this 'election' was a fraud.

@Angie & @Dallas

Maybe it's a matter that we ourselves are also animals, we just don't think of it that way, so the fact that we don't associate certain motivations with animals is because we (somewhat incorrectly) try to divest ourselves from the animal world.

I'll spare the absolutely bizarre strategy games my beagles play with each other -- enough to astonish the vet -- but my one beagle has a particular knack for knowing when someone is in any kind of pain, physical or emotional. When he was a pup, I tore my ACL in judo and it made him angry -- he kept growling at my knee. And he has a sense of other people he meets on the street who have recently lost dogs; he goes up to them, sits and nuzzles them until they cry. That's weird -- happens about once every three weeks.
