Atheist News Podcast Project

Hey guys.

I probably shouldn't put this off anymore, so I'm just going to jump on it and improvise. I'm pretty sure the show is over. It was a ton of fun doing it, but with work and my son and my wife in school I simply don't have time to do it anymore.

Other folks have offered to take over but I don't really feel comfortable with that. Quit while you're ahead, sez I.

Anyhow, I payed for another year of hosting, so the archive of podcasts will be available for at least that long.

I really enjoyed podcasting, so I might do something again in the future. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks guys and gals! It was AMAZING.

Love,

--Joe

I miss Atheist News and Chariots of Iron, too. I hope they come back at some point, but I realize that a putting out a podcast can take a big bite out of real life.

A couple of suggestions, if you're specifically looking for news with an atheist slant, are The Non Prophets, and Dogma Free America. Both can be be pretty newsy, but are also somewhat intermittent. The Atheist Experience is essential and can include news when they aren't swamped with callers. If you also like skeptical podcasts, there is always the essential Skeptic's Guide to the Universe.

Comment by Sentient Biped on September 1, 2011 at 1:24pm

Are there any current, viable atheist news podcasts?  Looks like Atheist News podcast on this site is either dead or in a coma.  Same for Chariots of Iron, which apparently have now rusted into oblivion.  RIP.  I listen to American Freethought, which I love, and Irreligiosophy, which is pretty funny, and Point of Inquiry, which suffers with the loss of its prior host DJ Grothe.

What I would really like is a current events atheist news podcast.  Does anyone else know of one?

Now that I've wacthed the Fox clip, I feel like I have to take a shower.  The "all powerful, all seeing, all knowing" god who created the heavens and earth and all in it, did not create the hurricane and can't stop it?  WTF?  Silverman rocks.  I would not have the patience to last 5 minutes with that bullying loudmouth crew of 3 spouting their childish assertions.

I'm not the biggest fan of Dave, but I think he represented himself well. I also don't think the idea was to change anyone's opinion in a four min segment, but to provide a viewpoint that, hey, atheists aren't spawn of the devil, and do all of the things theists do when disaster is on the horizon, namely, prepare.

RE: Dave Silverman's appearance on Fox News

Four minutes in enemy territory. That's what Dave got. From my perspective, his appearance didn't do much for our cause. Dave got himself trolled. There's a time and a place for combative tactics, but that wasn't it. Here was a chance to point out all the good things being done by atheist groups and people. Instead of spending time stating that the atheists don't need to have the comfort of invisible unicorns, he's dragged into playground "YOU! NO YOU!" arguments.

I guess I just have a problem with the tactics he chose. I don't think the typical fox viewer changed their opinions of us.

Or he's just teasing us.

Comment by Joseph P on August 25, 2011 at 7:48am

He's probably still doing final editing or something.  Chariots of Iron and Atheist News sometimes take a week in editing.

Joe may have just recorded a show and is still working on it.

What a podcast tease.  I see there is a comment from moJoe on Atheist News, run over here, and he says nothing about the podcast...

Sweet, Joe's still alive.
