Noted speed freak, serial-killer fangirl, and Tea Party hero Ayn Rand was also a kleptoparasite, sneakily gobbling up taxpayer funds under an assumed name [note: it might have been her legal name] to pay for her medical treatments after she got lung cancer.

An interview with Evva Pryror, a social worker and consultant to Miss Rand's law firm of Ernst, Cane, Gitlin and Winick verified that on Miss Rand's behalf she secured Rand's Social Security and Medicare payments which Ayn received under the name of Ann O'Connor (husband Frank O'Connor).
As Pryor said, "Doctors cost a lot more money than books earn and she could be totally wiped out" without the aid of these two government programs. Ayn took the bail out even though Ayn "despised government interference and felt that people should and could live independently... She didn't feel that an individual should take help."

But alas she did and said it was wrong for everyone else to do so.

I like the part under the 'serial-killer fangirl' link. Her concept of a real man is great.

It's easy to talk big before you actually get sick, isn't it Ayn Rand?

I looked at that serial killer essay. She admired genuine sociopaths! I'm also thinking of what society would be like if everyone was her "ideal man" and it would involve lots of people killing, stealing and beating up on other people because they were superior and therefore should trample on everyone else (she said it!).

Yeah, admittedly Libertarians aren't quite as bad as her, but I know a few who are edging towards it. They should be very careful about holding her material up as an ideal.

From just a few sentences in Anthem I gathered that despite all her talk of individualism, she still thought women should be submissive, or she didn't think enough to include women at all. Women were so rarely mentioned in her male-centered writings at all I didn't have a clear picture. So all her talk about how great it is to only care about the self, and she thinks women should be the exact opposite, and yet they are inferior for being that way.

No, It's not just you. I read her thoughts on a female president. She said a woman should be allowed to be president, but shouldn't want to hold the highest position in government because by her supposed definition, she would have to look down on her man and a woman should look up to, not down or equal to a man. A woman should be attracted to masculine power and a man married to the "most powerful person" in the world, is a relative wuss. Now, I'm paraphrasing loosely, but I think that is her basic idea. And I think it a stupid one.

I don't find it all that unusual that she found a psychopath appealing – her philosophy and writings could be described as a sociopath's behavior manual. I bet most of the grossly over paid CEO's, CFO's, COO's and other C's have dog eared, underlined copies in their book cases - at least their behavior strongly suggest as much.
