It's that special time of year again. Families are gathering to renew relations and celebrate; retailers are stepping up advertising to appeal to holiday shoppers and, just as they do every year, the Religious Right is staging boycotts of stores they feel aren't promoting the Christ part of Christmas enough. Yes, the American Family Association (the good folks who underwrote Texas governor Rick Perry's day-long political prayer-a-thon in Reliant Stadium last August) and Liberty Counsel (the self-appointed legal defenders of "Christian religious liberty, the sanctity of human life, and the traditional family"), are once again charging into battle in a war which, primarily, only they and their followers believe is important... or real.
And they've declared their first victory of the season too.

Happy Solstice / Yule, y'all!
Permalink Reply by Timothy Riches on November 29, 2011 at 3:01pm I only disagree with you that there is actually no war on Christmas. There is now, and it's thanks to the hard-fought fictional war that the real one will come as quite a shock.
Permalink Reply by Hugh Kramer on November 30, 2011 at 2:15pm You'll have to explain what that war is. If you're talking about fighting against the special privileging of a particular sect during the holidays, I might agree that there is such a war. However, that's not a war against Christmas per se.
Permalink Reply by D.O.S on December 3, 2011 at 12:32pm How about Happy Incest Day. God the "Father" did fuck his own mother in order to give birth to himself, the "Son." And lets not forget the cheating aspect. Mary was supposed to be engaged to Joseph at that point.
There's some family values for the holidays.
