Kate Sheppard writing for Mother Jones reports how South Dakota Moves To Legalize Killing Abortion Providers with a controversial new piece of legislation. SD's Republican heavy senate has launched yet another attack on a woman's right to choose with HR 1171. Already the state with the most restrictive abortion rights, HR 1171 includes protecting a fetus under its justifiable homicide law. The bill recently passed out of commitee with a 9-3 vote.

Phil Jensen, a committed foe of abortion rights, alters the state's legal definition of justifiable homicide by adding language stating that a homicide is permissible if committed by a person "while resisting an attempt to harm" that person's unborn child or the unborn child of that person's spouse, partner, parent, or child. If the bill passes, it could in theory allow a woman's father, mother, son, daughter, or husband to kill anyone who tried to provide that woman an abortion—even if she wanted one."
Yeah, that's completely fucked up and needs to be struck down by a court, if it passes.

Permalink Reply by The Secular One on February 15, 2011 at 8:30pm Obviously those 9 are not pro-life.
Seriously though, when the crazies start trying to pass laws to allow them to kill you, what is the correct action?

I know there are people who are against abortion but who don't think that trivializing rape and allowing murder are acceptable ways to reduce abortion. In other words, they are still decent human beings. If someone is pro-life and doesn't condemn this, they are letting the extremists speak for them.
