Last night's Golden Globes ceremony in Hollywood will probably remembered less for the usual glitter and which celebrity's dress was the most revealing than it will for the acerbic humor of its host, Ricky Gervais. Amidst all the thank you's at the close of the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards, he added one that wasn't expected: "...and thank you to God for making me an atheist."

The British comedian is known for his edgy humor but some critics are saying that this time he skated a little too close to the edge.

Good for him!!! :)

He is always working the edges.

This may seem over the top to the media, but imagine if they had seen his recent routine.  His joke was shocking only because we have handled their idiotic beliefs with kid gloves for too long.

Almost makes me proud to be British! Logic, common sense, clarity - what more can you want.

"a little too close to the edge"

Since when was any of this remotely near the edge ?

It was hard to tell if he was mocking the "playing me out" rush at the end of all award acceptance speeches, or if he really did just throw in the parting shot as an ad lib.

It seemed a little forced.

By the way, blonds don't normally do it for me, but January Jones had my full attention in that red dress.

In my opinion, that was one of the less offensive jokes he made during the night. I really loved him as a host. The most offensive thing I notices was all the roasting he did of various celebrities, which was hilarious and I think most people expected that of him.

haaaaa, tv is fun; outdoors w/ramps for me
